You are right, I do think that maybe things will change now, as it will be harder for for people to obtain credit(thank god). I'm trying to teach mine that if they save and wait they will appreciate things alot more, and there won't be that sinking feeling afterwards that you have bought something you couldn't afford. We haven't had a holiday for 3 years and it hasn't killed us! I hope your daughter receives comp soon and will be able to get out of debt soon. icon7.gif

    Thanks mammamia,
They are really trying and doing well. They have learnt the hard way, you can't just spend, spend, spend, casuse at the end of the day it is not sustainable and comes back to bite you the backside.Their goal is also to get out of debt, same as you, and to be fair over the last 15 months they have done really well. (camping holdays from now on and really enjoying them(:D:D

I agree marshallka. My motto is if you can't afford to pay for it, you have to wait until you can. but everything has been made so easy to get into debt and the biggest culprits are building society/banks, giving out 125% mortgages. I remember the time, there was no way you could get a mortgage unless you has at least 10% deposit,
Also if we were all honest with ourselves, nobody is prepared to wait for anything any more for non- essential things.
Sorry if I am going on and on and on, but having seen the state my daughter and OH were in, in makes me like this.:mad::mad: AND MUCH OF IT WAS AVOIDABLE, WHAT'S WRONG WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO GO ON A BIG HOLIDAY ABROAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mum used to say that (we do not speak a lot) about scrimping etc but with two hubbys dead from a young age she now says to live life to the full and hell to it. I lived life with no bank account or anything for over 6 years and so could not get into debts but with this second time around its been very hard getting started again really. I got ripped off a lot of money and can do nothing about it.

Our problem was the secured loan and FP and since then we have not been able to get on our feet really since although we have not terrific debts other than a massive mortgage. I do pay my debts though and ALWAYS have and will continue to do so but not PPI. That is another matter.

And you are so right, we went for 10 years with no holiday but must admit we went this year (3 years tesco vouchers) and my hubbys father lives in Corsica and my sis lived in Cyprus. The most we have EVER paid towards a holiday is £500 odd which is the cost for one in this country.

No it doesn't, but we have decided to pay off our car loan, as this saves us £366 per month and also 2 credit cards which will save us another £60. I know this is a bit short sighted, but we really need the extra money a month at present. (If we handed over the redress to Picture we would only be saving £180 a month) The adviser I saw said that we need to write to Picture to get the last 4 year's annual statements from them, which should give a breakdown of what was paid off the original loan and what was paid off the PPI. He said that they have actually broke the law by not sending us those statements on an yearly basis, so there maybe a further case against them!

Just wondering if anyone has been receiving statements from them?
Thanks for getting back to us all Mammamia.
We have never received any statements from Picture either
Cn I ask you Mammamia, when your claim was passed from delloitte to fscs how long was it at the fscs before you received your cheque. We have been told that we should hear something within 2 weeks, do you think it is likely we will hear something.

Busbyh, my dad worked from age 14, went in the forces etc and then died at 51 and NEVER had ONE single holiday ever. We only had two weeks in wales in a caravan when we were kids and with my mum only as dad could not afford to come as well. My dad was saving up to go to Portsmouth to see the Navy ships when he died. It was his dream. Sadly he never got to do it.

I can see your mum's philosophy, when it has been hard and life is to live, but at the same time debt is not worth all the heartache and misery it causes. Let's face it, it is the cause of many relationship breakdowns and health suffers so much. My daughter now has a massive mortgage, but one she gets this compo:eek: she will soon be debt free with regard to loan and credit card. Their aim once these are cleared they will start paying a little extra off the mortgage - it is amazing how many years this can take off the term.
I do hope you will soon see things getting better, i'm sure you will. As you say and I say to mine, always pay your debts, which thankfully they do.
Wish I had relatives in Corsica and Cypress. ;)

I am right in saying you lost the home you had with your partner
How long is it since you have spoken to your mum
