So pleased to hear the news - saw on the daily chat thread that you had been successful and that you had a diary, so looked it up and just caught up with the last few threads. Really pleased for you and look forward to reading all the details :j:j

Ugh my head.. too much fizzy wine.. OK so I don't have an exact start date yet, they still have to get a reference from my current job and I have to give a month's notice from here so it'll be some time in early May. The job is with one of the local universities and I'll be looking after all the administration to do with PhD scholarships - enquiries, applications, liaising with research councils, monitoring the budgets etc - and I get to do a bit of travel to meetings round the country, maybe once every couple of months, which is nice!

Honestly, I had no idea how the interview had gone, I thought I rambled quite a bit but when they phoned they said they realised I was nervous that it had gone well, and one of the questions I asked actually gave them an idea they hadn't thought of before!

Salary is about £2500 more a year than I'm on now, think it will work out roughly an extra £150 a month after deductions. Can stay on the same pension scheme as now which is handy.

Dreading telling my boss tomorrow (she is off today), as there's lots of upheavals going on at the moment and I know she won't deal with it well... but not my problem I suppose! We are moving offices this week/ next week which feels a bit odd now I'm going to be leaving.

I've got to say though, yesterday was weird. Mr S had to go to an ID parade at the police station (to do with his mugging) so was obviously a bit shaken - but he told me he was absolutely fine then proceeded to be weird and distant all evening - of course, he said well done etc for the job and even went to buy some fizz to celebrate but we sat and drank it and hardly talked. I had a bit of a wobble when we went to bed and told him he was acting weird - he said he didn't think he was but eventually decided to talk about being affected by the police thing. He still seems quite fed up this morning, I almost feel guilty about talking about the new job as he was expecting to come in to another day of doing nothing much and being bored :(

Apart from that, we had a pretty lazy weekend - I got a few runs in, and we had a good hilly walk on Sunday. Slug wars continue in the garden - they are getting through quite a bit of Sainsburys Basics Lager!

And I appear to have spent no money at all

No, he works at the same place as me at the moment, just very bored as there isn't enough for him to do - has been for ages.

To save you too much reading to explain the budgeting - he bought his own house last year, I more or less live there but still have my own (rented) flat for the moment.. our money is separate but we take turns at buying food etc and for things like holidays roughly go halves - he tends to pay for a bit more as he earns more although there won't be a great deal of difference with my new salary.

Morning all.. what a lovely day - shame I'm stuck inside! Plants are all sprouting up like crazy at home, spotted the start of courgette plants yesterday and they're about two inches tall this morning!

Have to tell my boss about new job today (she wasn't in yesterday) - not looking forward to that as I know she'll be stressed and probably not deal with it very well. Everyone else is going out at lunchtime so I'll tackle it then I guess. Was really strange not being able to say anything to anyone about it yesterday although in some ways I'm not looking forward to that either, just want to slip away quietly!

Ooh, good luck with handing in your notice - always a bit of a stomach-chuning thing to do, but once its done you can get on with looking forward to the new job :T
