Yesterday we were chatting about baby-related goings on in my office (one girl has just come back from maternity leave and another has just announced she's pregnant) and he said he wished he could go on maternity leave :rotfl: I think this is because he'd like lots of paid time off and not a strange desire to give birth - as I quoted 'Life of Brian' to him - "where's the fetus going to gestate, in a box?!" :rotfl:
Thats absolutely brilliant of you :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I missed waving you off on holidayHope it was lovely tho. I had my mum here, and was trying to keep the place straight for viewings etc. And I missed the soa you posted a while before that - looks very good.
How was the holiday?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Back at work.. the holiday was.. cancelled. Got to airport at 7.30am to find all flights cancelled, and as you know nothing much has been happening since. Decided to just spend the time at home, did loads of gardening, a few walks in the countryside, decided to hunt out edible wild plants so we've had lots of interesting things. Weather has been good so it was nice, and it was good to just be off work and relax.
We got the flight cost refunded (well done Ryanair) so £32 back. But not the apartment so £300 downObviously haven't spent as much - I have £323.83 left in the bank and get paid on Friday. Not sure whether to hang onto some/ most of that for future holidays or in case I have a gap between wages with new job. Not sure of starting date yet, not sure if my manager has done my reference yet..grr.
Oh well, back to work...Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Oh no! I just didn't put it together, Squirrel, I am *so* sorry you got caught up in this. I'm glad you made the best of it, but its not what you wanted, of course. Are you sure you can't get the apartment money refunded, say on the insurance?
As well, I think you were wise not to come on here during your hol - its too much the same as normal then. As you couldn't get away, a complete break in routine is good. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
EDIT - I've just checked, Martin has an item in the news listings about holiday expenses due to the eruption. It includes credit/debit card stuff - its worth a look.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I did have a proper break from online stuff which was good I think.
We err didn't have any travel insuranceStupid I know but we kept thinking we'd get round to finding a cheap annual policy and hadn't. The apartment have offered us a discounted rate for a future stay which was nice of them. I'll have a look at Martin's article though - thanks!

:eek::eek: Its the naughty step for you, missy! Seriously, all it needs is a broken leg (I mean, god forbid and all that, but this stuff happens - a lad I know had an asthma attack in Crete and spent 3 days in hospital) ..... please don't do that again, you'll give *me* a heart attack2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I always think the EHIC card is enough for medical stuff.. but lesson learnt - sorryDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Its a good start, but not quite .... it won't cover an air ambulance, for instance - I'll shut up now
Ahem. Lets change the subject. Gardening! Edible wild plants! They're all good! Mind you, just taking a break now, I'm starving - and those McVitie's digestives I bought yesterday on offer at Asda won't eat themselves, y'know2023: the year I get to buy a car0
