Hello, you wild vodka-drinking person you!
A job with different bits and pieces sounds great, doesn't it. The job I had that took me to Glasgow and Sheffield was like that - trouble is, they often come with a *shedload* of responsibility .... but you could hack it, I'm sure you could.
Bit of a favour? Could you post a linkie to the knitted cushion covers? That sounds interesting - I do like different textures and types of wool in what I knit, a standard type thing can bore me rigid before I'm halfway through.
Erm..... did you do what I think you did with the trowel? I think "ewwww" covers that nicely :rotfl::A2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Responsibility?! :rotfl: What sort of job was it that you were doing? (PM if you'd rather not post on here). I think working part time and having the time/ money to do lots of other things would suit me too but that's not really an option either at the moment.
There's lots of cushion cover patterns here - http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/pillows.php - I'm going to start off with this one - http://aww.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=776013 - and I also fancy giving this one a go - http://www.knitonthenet.com/issue4/patterns/jaffacake/ (this pattern is written a bit weirdly though I think).
Erm yep the trowel stuff was a bit nastyBeer traps were full of slugs again yesterday - where are they all coming from??!!
Decided I needed a haircut yesterday, but couldn't make my mind up what... ended up deciding just to trim the ends, I usually do it myself but asked Mr Squizz if he wanted to try as he is good at precise things - and it's a bit easier for him to see the back of my head! It ended up a bit shorter than I was planning - sort of a long bob - but it's really well cutIt's somewhere between this
and this
Bought a few bits in shop on way home yesterday so spends now look like this (this reminds me of that game "I went to the shop and I bought..."):
£5 - CD
£2.70 - pair of tights
£8.62 - supermarket
£3.10 - lunch in canteen
£16-ish - food
£1.79 - nail varnish
£3.86 - food
£41.07
Got lunch out today for colleague's leaving do - but just in student training restaurant so will only be about £5-7 ish.
Right off to do some bits and bobs....Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
The responsible job? It was a *long* time ago now - I worked for Mencap, at central office, and I was managing the schemes for getting unemployed people to help with horseriding for people with mental handicaps - mostly children, a very few young adults. I started it from nothing, I was chosen for it by luck really, from internal promotion, and in a couple of years the budget rivalled the whole of Mencap _pale_ But there were some difficult things involved with that - sacking people, tough negotiations with the Manpower Services Commission and with the riding schools, and within Mencap. And the local Mencap societies. It was a steep learning curve! When I went to Scotland, I'd go on Sunday and spend all day on the train - I got a lot of knitting done, which was also what reminded me about knitting in your posts yesterday
EDIT - spoiled for choice on those patterns, thanks! It reminds me that I need to focus on selling the house and decluttering thoah well, they'll be there in a year's time

That sounds really interesting Karma, I remember you mentioning the horseriding before I think. I actually would like a bit more responsibility, this job I've got the interview for would give me a bit of that - argh the work thing is so frustrating. One of my friends is in the career that she desperately wanted but has found that it's not what she expected at all.. hard isn't it?

Yep, I did it for two years, so its kind of entered my brain, sorry. Thats a shame about your friend, to work to get something and achieve it and *then* find its not whats expected.
Tough all of this!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Tough all of this!
I actually had the impression it was voluntary work you'd done - didn't realise you were such a high flyerSeriously it sounds fascinating - you must be really proud to have been 'in charge' of something like that.
I wish I'd found something I really liked and was good at - done a degree and had a career in it - if only it was that simple!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Its worth its weight in gold, to have something you love to do!
I was in charge in the sense that I was the one who negotiated and signed contracts, but obviously I was appointed to do that. I did take it by the scruff of the neck, because Mencap didn't really care about the unemployed kids - and they *were* kids, almost all teenagers who'd never had a job - and that wasn't good enough  though I did have to have a strong correspondence with Jack Straw - horses tend to stand on your feet if you don't get out of the way, for instance
and bomb making is also discouraged

Hooray - last day at work till next Weds! Interview on Tuesday though - I've got all my stuff printed off to look at over the weekend, but having serious doubts as to whether I can convince them I could do the job - I think I could do the job, I just don't have any confidence in my ability to explain that - feel like not even bothering to go
Very chilly and wet here - brr!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Nooooooo Squizz! Okay, you have several days to learn how to put into words your feeling that you can do the job - its just a matter of interpreting/translating your intuition so that they can understand it too.
Use this space! Write the feeling down, and do arrows and bubbles and whatnot leading from it, or a list, or any format you're comfortable with - you're so focussed, I know you can do it if you want to.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
