Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can keep on the straight and narrow regarding food shopping, I do a large shop each month and top up shops each wk, it's the top up shops that I have a problem with, I seem to do more than one and spend to much, yet don't have anything to show for it. I need to set a limit and stick to it, it generally is a problem when kids and oh are there. Might have to ditch them next time.0

Another problem I have is that daughter won't do the jobs I set to earn pocket money, is it right to set jobs or am I being mean, do others just give the pocket money.
I am an easy touch when we go to shops etc, so I know I need to stop getting her anything and maybe that will make her realise that if she does her jobs then she can earn her own money. She is 8 by the way.
I also think I might open up an esaver called her name and show her when I transfer money into it.0 -
Hold the front page, daughter actually helped tidy up yesterday so she earnt 50p, I have set her up an account, and put it in there, this can be viewed online, so she will be able to see what she has earnt.0

My kids have jobs and if they dont do them then they get no money - I must be mean lol.
Dont let the debt busting get you down - I think when you start off it can be really wearing as you think about it all the time. I think baby steps are the best way - some months we can only afford to minimum payments and although it really got me down at first I try and not think about it now - at least its going down.
With the food shopping I do one big shop at start of the month and top ups but just make sure I buy what I need and dont take the kids with me. Having said that I am way over budget this month as they have never stopped eating with being off!
Glad to see you back:)

Thanks pinky, being on this site and doing the thread allows me to go into a different world and make comments and maybe chat to adults, rather than just kids all the time, it's good to be back.
I have chat with daughter about earning, not sure if it went in, I said that when we are out I am not buying any toys etc for her, she can earn and use her own money. I do have one main job for her and that is to keep her room tidy, I said that I will inspect it once a week, this weekend is first inspection. I do keep on at her through the week to do it or put things away in there, should I not do this, should I just leave her and see how it goes at the weekend, if it's tidy then give her the money and if not then don't.0 -
I get paid tomorrow, and it's so hard to not already spend it in my head or in advance. But I think I should pay it off a debt, otherwise I will spend it and then stress that I wasted it and get annoyed that I never paid it off a debt. I will pay it off a debt, I will.0

I know re-payday I always have the money spent before its in the bank lol:D. I have a spending diary now where I write all the essential bills down and tick them off. I also write on another page anticipated things needed for next month so I know what money I will have spare. For example next month our car tax is due and the kids need shoes - so out of DH pay I have already accounted for at least £250. Am hoping to get back to my food budget again tho as I wont have extra hungry monsters at home lol!:):jNov 2012 - Loan £1200, CC1 £1450

Oh what a weekend, had a migraine on Saturday, this reduced itself to a niggle, so I managed to go to work Saturday afternoon and evening (late shift) but migraine came back, I was determined to stay and do my shift as if I don't then I don't get paid, I am on flexible employment on the bank at the hospital, so I earn when I work, it was very busy, and I experienced my first cardiac arrest, it had to happen sometime, just me and the patient behind the curtain, normally I would have left and let them
buzz when they wanted assistance but something made me stay, and she just went, it was awful, calling for help 5 times, someone finally assisted, emergency alarm set off, I stood back and made sure other patients were ok, stopped visitors coming in etc, I'm only a hca so not qualified to assist, and within seconds, minutes resus team the lot were there, hats off to them for what they do and did, it was amazing to see the speed, they bought her back and she was alive when my shift ended, I had a cry, pulled myself together though, and before I left I went to see her to say goodnight and godbless. Migraine pounding so couldn't do my shift the next morning, which meant money not earned but I will book shifts for this weekend during the week.
Hats of to the nhs, and to the staff on the ward I was on, they were amazing, but boo to a&e who wouldn't give us some equipment we needed.0
