Strange spending paralysis...

OK, many of you wil remember that im taking in a lodger/ freind into our spare room .

She paid the deposit ( 500) on Monday night, waiting for it to clear. Shes paying 500 on Friday for the rent upfront per month, and also Ive got 157 cleared from my refund from my bank charges ( cleared this morning)

Now, Ive written a list with OH as to what we are going to spend this money on. We dont need it to run the flat as we have our costs broken right down thanks to here, so we need to buy some bits & pices to get the flat up to sorted, and to give my lodger value for money.

Out of the 150 so far Ive written a cheque for 33.80 for some library fines coming out of sig. Also earmarked 300 back to my freind who moved out & we didnt have the money for her to give her back her deposit. ( also out of sig)

I need/ want to buy some garden furniture, done plenty of hunting around and will be able to get the hammock, lounger, table & chairs set, parasol & base for 150 excluding delivery. They are however, getting clubcard points & quidco cash back ( about £20 quidco, not much via clubcard points IYSWIM) and I am confident that what I am buying is the nicest for the cheapest.
(B&Q sale, woolworths sale, tescos for the parasol & value base.)

We are going to Ikea for the remaining furniture for the bedroom chest of drawers & bedside table & mirror for 150 all in. NOthing cheaper with my MFI/clubcard vouchers, want something nice so that when we come to sell next year, we dont have to spend more then.

So Im confident about the prices, ( unless someone wants to find e better deals  ) but I just cant bring myself to spend the money. Ive had the woolworths site up twice this morning, and ive closed it beofre putting my card details in, i just cant bring myself to do it. ALthough the weather is getting nice now, so want the garden sorted...

HOw can I start spending again, Im worried about falling off the wagon really, I think thats whats stopped me doing it... .

Sorry to all strugglers here, this probably doesnt seem like a problem at all, but its part of me managing my problem spending that I never anticipated...
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    Lynz,

this is not a SPEND it is an INVESTMENT in keeping your lodger happy! If ti makes you any happier, tell yourself you won't sit on the chairs yourself until you've made a lodger profit!

It's a "have to" unless you want to whittle things out of driftwood yourself :D

Maybe investment was the reason that I have almost a room full of stuff for the car boot sale

Hi Lynz as you say the goods are needed and you have searched out the best deals!!
spend the money on these items as the longer you delay the more chance you have off the money disappearing IYKWIM

Oh I dont know... I feel like going MAD with the money and this morning i even thought of cutting the card up for the spare account as I cant be trusted. OH usually keeps it in his wallet out of my way, as I cant be trusted!

hahaha this post made me laugh! Most posts here worry about spending money, not about not spending money :)

Don't worry about this lynzpower - you've got the cash earmarked, it's not going on your cards. The money you're spending isnt frivilous, it's on things you need, things that will help when you come to sell the place in future. And you've hunted down the best deals, used quidco etc.

It doesn't get more MSE that that! Don't worry about falling off the wagon, come back on here and post if you're even tempted, we'll sort you out :)

I think it's a good sign - just shows how truly MSE you've become :)

I completely know what you mean. It's a very 'all or nothing' feeling, and you're worried you'll open the floodgates or somehow feel guilty for spending.

The money is earmarked for it, so I think you just have to force yourself .

If you don't move now you might lose the bargains that you've found. And then you'll have to spend more to get the same kind of thing. And then how annoyed would you be?
