  • Hi Anthony

That sounds like the peak fair to me on the "all trains" travelcard which lets you go on Virgin and Silverlink trains.

Get a Silverlink only off-peak travelcard (includes tubes, buses etc) and it's £17.50 each. In the week you can't use this until the 9.15am train but there may not be a restriction at the weekend, I don't travel then so I don't know.

Also, there are some leaflets in the station travelcentre (they're white and say "75" in big letters on them) which give 2 for 1 etc discounts on attractions in London when you've bought a train ticket. I think (but don't quote me on it) there was a 2 for 1 voucher for the Aquarium in it.

    Hope that helps a bit

    Andrea :)

  • It does help, thank you. I have looked on the 2 for 1 website and the aquarium is not listed, if they are not on the leaflets at the station i have a one kid for one adult deal anyway which will save £8.

Final question, bearing in mind I will have 2 young kids with me and dont want to walk miles, wheres the best place to park for MK train station without paying £1 an hour?

I usually park just over the road by the Hockey Stadium. If you're parking all day you can park in the Blue section for a fiver a day, I usually park just a bit further up (behind the 'cowshed') where there are black meters for 25p/hr, only applicable 8am-6pm (I believe - check on the meter).

Have left my car there two or three times now and always return to it being the only one (or one of two) in the car park but never damaged. Mind you, it's a real old-man car so I don't think anyone would want the thing...

Other than that - Abbey (National) is opposite and always has cars parked outside (thanks to their 24/7 shift patterns) and has black meters at 25p/hr.

Both are about 10mins walk (at the most) from the station. Abbey requires the use of underpasses.

Oh and the is for the two of you - it's the Silverlink-only travelcard as Andrea mentions above. The Virgin/Silverlink card is (I think) £22.50. TheTrainline must've got that wrong - don't forget that it shows the full price for however many adults you put in, not per-person!

Standard cheap-day returns cost £12.50 each, but you'd have to add your tube fare on top (£4.80 at the last count for me for a 1-2 zone travelcard, wheras the fiver you pay for the Silverlink one at £17.50 is a full 6 zone card)
  • There used to be two rows of free parking spaces behind Richer Sounds (go through one of the alley ways through that block) but not sure if that's still the case, I'm remembering from a couple of years ago.

Also, I think some of the spaces past the ice rink are free if you don't mind the little walk, although being a Saturday they may be busy depending on what time you're going :)

  • I actually came to the thread to post this but got distracted then went for lunch :)

Bletchley Park are doing 'Free Postcode Days' in September as part of the Heritage Open Days scheme.

If you live in the MK1, MK2 or MK3 postcodes you can get in for free Thurs 7th and Friday 8th 9.30 to 5.30 and Sat and Sun 9th and 10th 10.30 to 5.30 (last admission is at 3.30pm).

The leaflet it's in is for the Heritage Open Days scheme with lots of free events, tours and activities in MK between 7 and 10 September. There's more info at https://www.heritageopendays.org apparently (I've not looked)

    Andrea :)

  • My father took my daughter and her friend to the V and A the other day and I think it was £19.50 ish for him and a pound each for the girls from Bletchley for a one day travelcard.
  • That's reminded me, in case anyone doesn't know, it's cheaper to travel from MK Central to London than it is to go from Bletchley (and from what I've heard, from some stations even further down the line) because Silverlink is in competition with Virgin from there and not at the others.

Have any of you moved recently in MK? Which solicitors did you use? Would you recommend them?

My parents urgently need to appoint a solicitor so I thought I'd tap you as to whether you can recommend one!

I am also interested in this, as the previous solicitor I used, while great, is Leighton Buzzard based so a bit far to be trekking backwards and forwards to.
