    Except you do.

I've used both ASDA and Tesco self service tills (they're both identical anyway) and they always as for your PIN. In fact, they have the exact same card reader as the 'normal' tills.

When the post was made though, Tesco's self service tills had a £100 limit, under which you did not need to sign or enter a PIN. Was definately like that in the Alloa (Extra) store for a bit (which was one of the first in the country to have the self service tills installed).

Now that loads more stores have them they're all fitted with PIN machines :). Must be a big success for Tesco because I've noticed that most stores I've been in now have them.

The store in Littledown, Bournemouth at one point didn't require a pin. They do now though.
  • Ahh, Kilty, was just going to add the same thing! When these things first started last year, you just swiped your card, no PIN required, and I remember challenging it then. It has now changed (thank goodness!) but when the post was started (check the dates!) you didnt have to put your PIN in.
    HTH!
  • Yeah that worried me too about the pin but they've changed it now. My biggest issue is with buying alcohol, our Tesco is usually v busy and sometimes you can be waiting ages for them to come and press whatever button it is to let it go through. I understand why it's there, it's just annoying!
:D**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D
