We have them at our local Tesco and at our Asda Superstore, I use them a lot and think they are great except if you have reduced items when you end up waiting for a supervisor to come and enter the codes.

We have these at one of our stores nearby. They're fine until the till doesn't recognise an item and then you have to wait for an assistant to help. Also if you're collecting the computers for school tokens you then have to queue at the customer services to get your tokens which is a bit of a pain. We had these about 10 years ago in Safeways in Ayr (when I lived there) and they were good for a while but then as usual people started abusing the system by not scanning every item they had and so they quickly got taken away.

I love the self serve tills! that was until yesterday and i got some jars of baby food on discontinued at 24p a jar, they wouldnt scan and not on the system at all. The shop assistants just turned round and said sorry we cant let you have them then! Now most shops would have just said have them but tescos not a chance!

will 'it' accept money off vouchers then?
I have trouble with my internet vouchers coz I have a black and white printer and the manager practically 'accused' me of photocopyng them! I told him I have a B&W printer but he said they look like photocopies to me. So I am taking the whole A4 sheet in today to show them that it's a internet printout.
Although if the self serves accept coupons then I'm away!

  • Yeah the only problem with self-service is it doesn't recognise when something's been reduced in price! You know, like bread and things with a short use by date.

I think they're quite good these days as you have to put the item in the bagging area (for it to weigh) so that you have bought what it says you have! I don't think it lets you proceed until you put it to be weighed. We have them also at Marks and Spencer! Very handy until they break down!

I use the self serve tills at Tesco every visit and only once recently had a reduced item where it didn't recognise the barcode and as the assistant who was looking after them was busy she accepted the price I said was on the shelf.

It has even recognised the xmas bargains that were going through at 1p each in January icon12.gif

only problem with them is if you use a debit card you dont have to sign or enter a pin.
