Good as your system restore suggestion and trying different IP addresses were a complete waste of time!

Are you able to try connecting to the router with any other machines (eg laptop, smartphone)? From what you describe will almost certainly be a bad firmware flash but if any other devices do work the problem lies on the PC.

If it is the router a system restore on your PC won't affect the firmware on your router so I wouldn't waste time with it.

Assuming the hard reset described earlier didn't work (holding in the reset button for some time -eg 15 secs), Your best bet is to re-download something you're certain is suitable firmware for your router AND the correct firmware flashing tool and try a reflash.

Lesson: If you don't need to update firmware on something, don't do it.

EDIT: The D-Link website has a 3rd reset procedure called a 'crash reset' that will clear the current firmware

    Reset option 3 "Crash Reset"

This will remove the current firmware. Next time you try tologin, a message will show up, asking your for a firmwarefile/image. << Download a new one from the D-Link website>>

Power OFF the device. Press and hold the 'reset' button, whiledoing so, power on the device again and keep holding the 'reset' button for another 10 seconds. Then release the button and waituntil device restarts.

How do you reflash the router?

Bit of a long shot, try downloading the firmware again..
  • if the firmware flash didnt go right, thats what causes the router to be fault, he wont be able to relfash it from the computer until its functional again!

was there anything that prompted you to flash the router? the data u copied in b4 was that done while the cable was plugged in?
