A link on how to make your own pads for that time of the month. They are resusable, washable and free to make if you chop up old clothes/towels and have a sewing machine or good at hand stitching!
Just think of all the money it will save you! ideal if you dont get on with the mooncup.
I am going to give this one a god, once i can use my sewing machine! i am experimenting with making a skirt at the moment

so much easier to go the baby sock route - no sewing involved!
take one pair of baby socks, roll one up into a sausage shape, place inside other sock - voila diy tampon, including string!!

lol, had a look at the first link, and quite why you would need or want a fashionable lining to your home made sanny pad is beyond me. i mean, who is going to see it to appreciate it
there's nowt as queer as folk :rotfl:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I don't have a sewing machine and definitely don't have the patience to handsew, but even the more expensive ready made lunapads (which I have) are quite OS (same principle as our grandmothers etc) and still moneysaving so I don't feel that guilty
I can see how they are prob quite easy to do if you do have a machine though.

Well they look nicer hanging on the washing line :-)
And I have heard about the baby sock thing before (although haven't tried) so guess it must be true!

i use a combi of the mooncup for day and homemade or popolin0 pads at night. the mooncup does a full moneyback refund if you can't get on with it in 3 cycles so you've nothing to lose.
I made my own pads from an old towel that had seen better days - super tightwad me at times. Instructions are here http://www.diapersewing.com/clothpads.htm
The popolino pads are prob the cheapest on the market so you might want to get one just to try the concept out. They are only £1.40 each. Even if you purchase a posher brand you'll still save a fortune over time!http://www.snazzypants.co.uk/shop/index.php3?formaction=catdisplay&categoryID=22
I soak my pads in salt water (great for blood stains) in a tupperware container behind the loo and then throw them in the wash with the nappies or towels. A little mesh laundry bag is useful to prevent the inserts getting lost in the wash. (Mine came with my popolino set).0 -
Thanks for those links, I hadn't seen them before. I'm really not that keen on the idea of a moopcup, but I've been using cloth pads for a few years now. They're much better than the disposable ones. I bought a pattern to make them too, but I've not really got round to making any yet. I've got lots of left over scraps from making nappies too. I quite fancy making a set of tie dye ones!0

I don't wish to sound rude, this is my first time on the Old Style board and was horrified to see DIY pads/tampons! Surely nobody is that poor that they can't afford tampons? Think you can get a whole load for about 80p in Lidl, or better still, if you're not planning any children soon, have the contraceptive ijection. Not had a period for 2 years!
I can't think of anything more unhygeinic that stuffing stitched up bits of cloth in your knickers when you're bleeding like a pig! Or a sock for that matter! And i can't think of anything more disgusting than having to wash it after! I'd rather throw a pound down the drain!!! Sorry if this offends anyone!0
