Good morning Wol. Would your Dad consent to you attending the clinic with him? If there is any concern that a patient might not fully take in the information given, then staff in hospital clinics are more than happy to have relatives present as well. You could also ask questions of your own and make sure your Dad is fully up to speed with things. Of course, he may be fully aware of what's what, but is just choosing to pretend it isn't happening (a man thing, dare I say?) Hopefully your mum will keep you informed. He might be offered a carotid endarterectomy to sort out the blockage, providing his pre-existing medical conditions don't contraindicate that procedure. He will almost certainly be prescribed daily aspirin. I am sure the clinic will keep a firm eye on him.

What is it with parents not telling adult offspring in their 40s and 50s about what's going on? Hope you get to the bottom of it all Wol - I had another example last night. My Zimbabwean auntie died yesterday - I knew her, but not well - and when my mum rang to tell me, she asked if I thought my sister (age 51) should be told - I mean, yes, her husband died earlier this year, but not to tell somebody about a death in the family is a bit extreme, it seems to me..... she was upset, of course, it brought back all her own - but how can you not tell somebody about a death in the family???? It beggars belief sometimes, but I'm of the firm school of "better out than in........" as applied to emotions............

Hope you're okay - and I'm so glad you got the piggies back okay. And now its poo-time....... lovely. Many, many changes of rubber gloves, I think!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Bless you beanie....I'm in the same camp as Tixy....more by luck than judgement - should have had it done 8 weeks ago but decided to be MSE and hang on....this then revealed to me just how grey I have turned as a result of the stress of the last two years..(it was a few strands/patchs but is now 100%:eek:)....and I really needed a cut as a business adviser cannot go meet clients,/extremely rich business angels/ venture capitalists/bank managers looking like the wild (old) woman of Borneo :o

Edinburgh is as good excuse as any to justify flexing mr plastic :o

Glad you still managed to fit in your hair appointment - hope all these things don't prevent you coming to Edinburgh - looking forward to meeting you. And would be interested to talk about your work with you as well - there is some crossover with what I do. I'm having my hair done the day before Edinburgh which is a happy co-incidence rather than good planning.

    Take care and sleep well.

I really hope that things have calmed down now so I will be able to make it to Edinburgh ...I'm not going to make any promises because in view of recent events that seems to invite disaster. :o

Take care my dear and thank you so much for your posts :kisses3:

Hopefully I will met you in Edinburgh and be able to tell you face to face how important they have been over this time :T:T

    Thanx Hun

Hi Nargle - this is fantastic info ..thank you for posting. Unfortunately...us "kids" are being kept at bay by mum so no chance of attending clinic (even my bro :confused:)

I have just come off the phone from my bro (medic consultant) who decided to "sod it" and make a trip down today as (surprisingly) he also is out of the loop and also had concerns.

Dad is in denial...and he (my bro) has laid it out on the line for him today. Dad is not out of the woods yet and could easily have a massive irreversible stroke over the next few weeks...dad is already showing signs of the other condition associated with a long term untreated TIA condition which is multiple infarcs leading to dementia.

Last year dad WAS given the all clear but a plaque was identified in his carotid. It would appear that he has probably been having mutliple mini TIA's for a long time, with the plaque being the catalyst/focus. He SHOULD have been put on statins last year and my bro told him at the time but unfortunately their GP wouldn;t prescribe and just put him on aspirin becuase he "had made a full recovery"

Unless he was put on the right medication at the time - which he wasn;t - the plaque will act as a focus to cause the events that will lead up to a TIA or full stroke. and it would appear it has been doing it's jolly little job for a long time

Why has it all blown up now ? - well it appears my lovely Dad stopped taking his aspirin a few weeks ago :mad:...and now we are where we are.

Basically: He has been given a warning which he needs to heed otherwise he will end up with dementia. My bro has given them both a lot of tough love tonight and he (my bro) is obviously very drained....but I'm so very glad he went down to see them today...:T:T the message "may" have got through ;)

It's a waiting game..and dad is not out of the woods for a few weeks yet....bro hints I need to prepare myself.....Dad is actually now in "the danger zone" for massive stroke over the next two weeks _pale__pale_

So thanx to bro... at least I can prepare.....
