With respect, if I put "made up figures" into entitledto.com then I'd just get "made up figures" out. Hardly the sort of info I was looking for.
I do agree with you about the handouts that people with kids receive. As a singleton who is thinking of never having children (how can we really reduce global warming, emissions, etc when we encourage an ever increasing world population?) I do think it's unfair for me to have to subsidise other people's children. However, everyone who earns less than (about) £60k per year and has kids receives some sort of state handout so why just pick on the single mums and not ALL parents?"I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -
It's not picking out the single mums.
It was just a point that on benefits you can get the same or more than another single person earning an average wage.
No point in comparing a couple to a single person now is there.0 -

No, but whose doing that?

Anyone earning over (I think) £20K only gets £10 pw. Pointless waste of money that most people do not need. It should be stopped - but then I think all 'working tax credit' should be stopped - they should just let you earn more before taxing you rather than taking it off you and giving it back.
Anyone earning over £16K who has kids is penalised. At that point most benefits stop and your on your own. This is where the problems arise because you end up with someone earning more money through the extra help they get than the ones who are earning it by going out to work.
As I said all this was clearly explained in the post that GD posted - also unless you are completely stupid I am sure that you would be able to make up some 'realistic' figures to put into www.entitledto.com to help you get 'realistic' answers.0 -

Why are you being so offensive? I haven't been to you.

the fact anyone on benefits can live in a home that someone who is working cannot afford is a damning indictment of the system. Someone who doesn't work should NEVER be better off than someone who does.
Cut all benefits by 50% and stop long terms scroungers altogether.
I stopped a road sweep in London on Sat to ask directions. Surprise surprise he was eastern european. He is willing to work and do a job that some layabout british chav thinks he is too good for. and who can blame him. While the eastern european slogs his guts out for an average wage, his british contemporary is sitting on his fat backside, drinking stella in his council flat being racist and probably fathering a number of illegitimate sprogs. Probably has enough funds for a widescreen tv and staffie and fags though.0 -

There might be if you are talking about families, rather than individuals.0 -

Yer, I'd agree. But I wasn't talking about that

Why not put your figures into entitledto (for people earning over £20k) and you won't need to 'think', you'll know?
I was discussing a 'real' person with Graham and so don't see the value of inputting dummy figures (even 'realistic' dummy figures) into a web page. We were talking about a real-world example, not some made up figures. I have already stated that I am sure that people could receive large amounts of money from the state, but as I said before I don't have any experience of this within my peer group and so was interested to hear from someone who did have experience and could provide real figures.
I'm not 'completely stupid', I just wanted to hear real figures, not some I have invented myself and input into a website."I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0
