Has anyone else noticed the medal design?

    top_medal.jpg

In the numbers going around the outside of the second design, where the 80 and 90 are, they're sort of, well, the right way up to look at the numbers, but the wrong way up to go with the rest of the other numbers. To me, it looks like it goes '60, 70, 08, 06'!

This could be just me, of course. The older Minis may have had this design on their speedometers; I've had two, but they were late 80s/early 90s models so may have had more modern dials (and, by the way, for anyone who hasn't driven a Mini, 90mph is possible, but make sure you clear it with air traffic control first ;)).

Let me know what you think! Incidentally, I think the rest of the design is pretty great - I love the subtle British flag on the front and how the speedo is at 59mph. But that's just me being a design geek!
  • thanks again worked for me ok they must have sorted it out

Well spotted CaroW, I hope a real Mini enthusiast will let us know. I thought on the earlier speedos that went up to 90mph only the numbers of the 90 were turned around. A bit like this one

I can't see the Royal Mint making such a huge error (apart from the missing date on the 20p coins).

The most I ever got out of my mini was 65 miles an hour. I thought the poor little mite was going to fall apart. The windows made a funny noise and the wing mirrors looked like they'd fall off. It was only a 998cc Austin Mini City though, but it is the only car I ever bought and paid for with my own money. Shame I wasn't allowed to drive it.

RIP Bullseye, Mummy misses you :-(
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

this isn't a sales pitch btw, but look at the numbers

90 is upside down, so it actually reads 90 instead of 09.

Royal Mint have made a great job of the coin it seems, very accurate!

Pretty much the same as barnabee's image. Sorry barnabee! :-)

I had a 1979 mini 850 for my first car, 3 years older than I am!

I managed to get 105 out of it, (Just had a look at the speedos with the links here and mine was the same as those pictured I think, the speed I was doing was over the last speed mark so I guessed it was 105, this was 8 years ago), admittedly I was going down a very big hill on the way to the lake district, the car was shaking so much I thought the steering wheel was going to fall off, funnily enough the car died soon after that trip.

I will never forget that little car, even the time when I took my girlfriend out and my door fell off, or everytime it rained the engine got wet and conked out, then out with the old wd40 to get it going again. Oh those were the days.
