I've thanked your post as it seems to prove that working out how much milk someone drinks, dividing by the amount of milk sold and coming up with a 77 million estimate for the number of people living here is stupid.

    Yes. That would be stupid.

Thats the same as saying Pork sales havent risen that much so the Muslim popuation hasnt risen.

But cross reference that with bread, milk, rice, tea, coffee, fruit, chicken, beef, vegetables whilst knowing your market share & using a comparison with card & cash sales you have a pretty much accurate figure.

This is real world stats at work. Not based on birth & death rates that in turn are calculated on outdated 1950s % ratios...

Looking at the stats in more detail it does seem that there is a huge amount of new people each year, doing absolutely nothing to earn their keep. A huge drain on resources, and they expect to cared for night and day.

    Babies. Get rid of them.

Have you been out and had a count ??

But how reliable is it? Anyone interpreting the figures will put their own slant on it.

As you say they know their market share. They know it won't get any bigger, but they want to build more stores to make the shareholders happy. How can they make it look like they need more stores? ie, how can the market share look smaller?... By making the overall population look bigger, suddenly their number of customers makes their market share smaller... surprise, surprise more stores are needed.

    Good point.

If they bend it its bent. The same as any stats.

I'm not saying it's wrong, just that they stand to gain by having a larger population. And just becuase it's scientific/mathematical doesn't mean it's objective.

    I agree with you 100%.

The information is definately there to do it very accurately but if its abused its abused.

Tesco spends millions each year working out their market share.

    Its true.

The Midwives stats on foreign nationals having babies is astounding.

When is all the gross unfairness to the taxpayer going to end? I've paid taxes all my working life, and never taken benefits of any sort, yet I have to contribute to scum like this, some MPs, bankers' bonuses (even massive bonuses of those working in nationalized banks); and in the public sector, diversity officers, management consultants, and other highly paid parasities, enquiries lasting years and costing millions..

Words fail me. We need a general election now.
