Assuming the 60m figure was somewhat accurate a few years back I would put the increase of 20% on top of that no problem.

So 77m seems realistic to me..

Sounds believable to me. The government opened the immigration flood gates an threw away the key. They LOVE immigrants, of whatever colour and flavour. They tell us we can't do without them, even though there's mass unemployment and we're all squashed into this country like sardines. They probably just think 'great, let's import our voters!'

Immigrants come in a flavour? If that's the case I imagine that the millions of Brits living in Spain probably come in Carling or Full English flavour.

Immigration is a neccesary evil , the birth rate is lower , the exodus of brits and the lack of qualified personel in a particular sector...ie medicine for example we simply arent producing enough staffing here.

The population is ageing , which means pensions need funded somehow , and if your not getting enough procreation then where do you get the taxes to fund them.

A nation of 77-80 million is nothing , especially when the majority live in but a dozen towns/cities and their suburbs.However as those areas are at bursting point housing doesnt matter a jot , planning though does.As the likes of london gets bigger its costs rise and its infrastucture becomes bogged down.The solution for that is to start to thin out london and create satellite cities and towns that have high speed commuting.

It wasnt so long ago that the cities were thought of as being congested , over built and needing fixing.The same headlines we see in papers today were there in the 1800's , 1900's although the congestion is not horses that have dropped dead and stopped the steam powered omnibus.

There is simply no reason why the govt cannot give incentives to builders , manufacturers and employers to migrate their operations to other areas....areas that have higher unemployment and lower costs for production , employment , manufacturing and housing.This needs to be done before it becomes exported migration and the nation itself loses out to other countries in taxes , profits and jobs.

WE all sit here and bemoan the immigration , which is damn near racism , and at times you can subtract the "damn near" with some posters.The sad reality is that it has always happened , right back to the hunter gatherer we migrated , and if truth be told most closetted racists are but 3 generations from migrants , most the uk has links to northern europe and or at least our neighbouring countries in the uk.

The micks , jocks and ingerlanders have recieved the same sort of anti immigration abuse thoughout history ,both to and from each other .Ironically they now sit and bemoan the eastern european just like their irish , scots , english , welsh forefathers recieved when they relocated elsewhere on these sometimes beatiful islands that we ALL call home.

Your hard pushed to see a news cast on Scottish TV to not include an English person being intervewied about something , so can I easilly presume that there was no suitably qualified scots person to do whatever job they relocated for?Well if it is the case then the job they did do in england had to be filled by someone too.

Lastly seeing as someone mentioned the likes of spain and those brits that live abroad.I find it laughable that the expats , or semipats in the case of "the one foot in brigade" to keep their benefits/pensions/nhs , they all have the same rant in common.They cite as a top five reason for leaving the uk the amount of immigrants coming to the uk are getting this and that for nothing , live in little communites and dont learn the language.They cannot see that they too are immigrants that create little britains , bemoan that the locals dont speak english and as soon as something is up with their health its on a plane back to the uk....you simply cant change the mind of bigots.
