Rude Customer.

Has it ever occurred to you that some shop assistants end up with bad attitudes because they are constantly in contact with customers such as the OP described?
There is only so much abuse that one person can take before they either give it back, or simply stop caring. As simply stopping caring is the attitude more likely to enable them to keep their job I have no problem with them taking that attitude.
I'm fairly sure that I can see the influence of a good or bad manager on employees (or maybe good or bad corporate decisions). A couple of years ago I used to really enjoy shopping at my local branch of The Range. The staff were friendly, helpful, and seemed to genuinely enjoy talking to customers. Now they are automatons. I can only guess that The Range was either more successful than it intended, or it got bought out by some corporation that has "rules" for all employees so they can no longer have personalities.

I agree. Also, just because you feel someone is lazy that does not give you the right to insult them or be rude to them.0 -
Don't feel bad OP. I could post a 1000 tales of things that have happened to me in retail. The customer isnt always right. While at M&S one asian lady came up to the till with a pair of shoes which should have been £40. She had stuck the sticker on from a pair of £15 slippers and then tried to go nuts on me when it came up as £40. I said very politely Madam, the sticker on these is for slippers. Clearly it has been put on by a customer. She didnt know that not just the price comes up when you scan..
They think sales staff are all numpties born yesterday and in retail cos we can't get a real job.Granted some are that way but a lot are not and M&S doesnt employ just anyone..
have a hug and dont let these jerks get to you. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
You should have pressed charges. That is the only way you can teach these people that such behaviour is not on.What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

I remember at a summer job (luckily none of the proper jobs I've had involve "public" customers) where a woman accused me of shortchanging her £10 as she "only came with twenties" and therefore basically accused me of theft to my line manager simply because my change tray was exactly right to the penny. Only ages later did she suddenly "remember" she'd paid for something else before coming in with a tenner. But until then it was "impossible" for her to be wrong and I had to have stolen it. She did give an apology but what if she hadn't remembered, it would only be my word against hers. :rolleyes:What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Superdrug do not operate a bait/switch or whatever that customer said. What happened in this instance is that Maybelline sent around new tag strips saying 3 for 2, and these slide in underneath the current price strip. The person who is responisble for the stand (not be btw) obviously got lazy and just moved the current strip over the 3 for 2 strip, the current strip then got dislodged, therefore showing the incorrect strip. Hope that makes sense?
This may sound petty to some of you, but it just really got to me as you think i worked there for 39 hours last week, and this one person could ring up and make me look really bad to the manager...i did tell the manager as well...
Some people will never be happy. I get shouted at on a almost daily basis. It does get you downand make you wonder why you bother trying to please anyone but not everyone is like that. It would be great if we could treat every customer as our first but because we are NOT robots we dont.
Customers need to understand that times are changing and that 'the customer is always right' phrase doesnt happen anymore.
I will go out of my way to help anyone but the minute they start shouting or swearing at me is the minute I will stop going out of my way for them.
In this situation he didnt even give you chance to try to put right what someone else had done wrong. Some people just want a argument, just put it to the back of your mind and forget him, hes not worth your energy.
I would though mention it to your manager, I always tell my manager if I have ANY problems, or make notes, that way Im always covered.0 -
I used to work at Superdrug and things like that happened ALL the time. If there was a problem like that we would always offer them the price on the ticket but people were always so rude about it, as if we did it on purpose. It was my first job and put me off retail completely.
I gave up towards the end and just told people to go to Boots!0 -
this customer didnt go off on me but i wish she ha as i feel sooo bad!!
it was a number of years ago when i worked in a phone shop part time during uni. one of the sales had just gone on ( i think it was after xmas).
nayway she must have been about 15 with her mum and she picled up a case which had the £9.99 price tag still partially showing with a £4.99 tag on top.
i either assumed someone had labelled it incorrectly or someone had put a price tag from something else on top(as we were meant to emove the label underneath or put the second one on neatly)
i charged her full price and she never said a word... simply went back to mum and asked for extra money
i later found out that the cases had indeed been reduced but not on the system and a lazy sales person didnt put the abel on correctly.
that must have been about 5 years ago but i still feel soooooo bad!!!!!!!!:(0
