  • Thanks marcellep.

I have been wondering what the best 'attitude' to take is when calling them. Do you think it's best to say that you are considering cancelling and would like to know if they have any better deals or just say you're cancelling full stop and see what they offer?

I'm also interested to know this. Also does anyone have the number to call to haggle an offer? I don't have a virgin phone.

I only have 2mb Broadband & am paying just under £18 a month. I have been on this for 3 years now. I don't want the TV or phone as I have no need for them. I don't have a BT line either.

I have seen their offer of 10mb broadband £15 for 6 months then £20 a month. I was thinking of calling & threatening to switch supplier and if they still didn't give me decent offer, then actually going through with the cancellation and signing back up on the new offer. Is this a good idea? Anything I should watch out for?

I phoned and canceled today, after the CS chappies and retentions swearing blind that they can't do me a better deal.

    Phone Rental: £11
    Talk Unlimited: £7.95
    Loyalty Pack: -£23
    Fully Itemised Billing: £1
    XL TV: £22
    Additional Box: £15
    V+ Box: 10
    Additional Box Discount: -£10
    BB L - £25
Non Direct Debit Charge (what a con!): £5

Now, I know that's a reasonable deal but having seen what other people are getting price wise for the same package shows how much flexibility that they have with pricing. I was rather annoyed, the chap at retentions was rather snotty and just kept blabbering on about how much I'll end up paying with Sky+BT+ISP.

How long does it usually take for someone at retentions to call you back or shouldn't I expect a call now, seeing as noone tried to keep me onboard today? I've been with them for (well NTL first) ten years now, I always thought loyalty stood for something! :)

Hi there....how much are you paying in total...cant make out from your post as it looks like you are paying -£25 for BB!

Dont panic...just stay put...they will call you in a few days...the longer you stay quiet the better your chance of getting a good deal....you can cancel anytime uptil the last minute. when they call they will sound like they are just continuing with the cancelllation...dont get scared..just go along with it as if you fully intend to go ahead...then they will open negotiations..and time to haggle begins...good luck

  • Hi, This is my First post,
I've been with my ISP for around a year and half, my contract was for a year, the service is good, Regarding my B.B, though C.S, can be not so good.

I was paying for 2mb £20 month, its gone up to £25 since jan for 10mbs. For £30 I was told I can get 50mbs.
I have a phone package thats costs, £11 line rental, then Pay for talk unlimted, i cant rember requesting that, anyway that is £7.95.
    and call display £1.75
I have TV too, that's basically freeview.

my avg bill is around £40-46 a month.

I'm asking because I see these deals from other company's, even with the company I'm with are much cheaper!!- for new customers, Ive been with this company really since 2000 when it was dial up, apart from a few months while I was off line, They've changed there name since them days.

Just times are harder these days, I'm not sure how long I can be paying this every month, some of the other deals sound attractive.
It seems sad that loyal customer pay the odds, over their keenness to gain new customers.

PS, I'm with Virgin, You think calling them would get my Bill Reduced?
    Many Thanks.
  • My haggling skills obviously arn't very good!

I have had the 2 services from virgin for a while now and have been with sky tv for a long time so today i thought i would try and see if i could get something more out of virgin by saying i was considering going to sky.

    At the moment i have:

    Broadband M £10 per month
    Line rental £11 per month
    Talk unlimited £7.95 per month

£28.95 in charges to virgin and then i pay sky £40 per month for their tv packages.

A few of the channels we want are only available on the xl tv package on virgin and that 2mb internet has to go, if me and partner are on our laptops at the same time you can guarantee one of us loses connection.

    Anyway i asked for:

    Broadband-L
    Phone-L
TV-XL with the sky sports collection

I have been quoted £64.45 per month for all the above, there are so many different figures on this thread so im wondering what other people think about this, is it a reasonable cost for the services?

I asked about the v+ box too and was told £99 installation, no other offer available.
  • I have been on the Virgin 3 for £30 for the last 12 months (landline, L TV and 2mbs BB).

I was looking to see what deals I could get for this and when I looked on their website the price had gone up but they no longer did the 2mbs BB.

When I phoned them they offered me the same package for £30/month with the 10mbs BB (which is the L package I think).

Does this sound like a good deal?

I think I will take it. Just thought I would share with you all!

I am not sure that they do phone you back? Did you cancel through the "thinking of leaving" option on the phone or normal customer services? If the former, they normally negotiate a better deal before accepting your cancellation.
