Virgin Media: Haggle down your costs.

  • It is so easy.
If you are a virgin media customer do this today.

    Phone 150. Press option 4 then 2 then 1.

Say that you wish to be disconnected because you want to go over to BT. When they ask why (and they will, that is their job) tell them that you think their prices are two expensive. They will then offer you a package at a reduced price.

Today I got a phone line with free geographical calls, the medium TV package and 2MB broadband for 19.95 per month. That discount will last 12 months with no tie in.

That is a lot less than the advertised price.

I just phoned them yesterday, Im on 4mb BB & I had it for 12.50 for the last 12 months (or suposed to have been, im not sure) I think it said 6 months on their system when I phoned them. I said that I wanted to keep with them but on the same deal, basically the guy said that they couldnt do anything for the BB only and that I could take a phone line & get their new customer offers that you have pay them for phone line rental. I told them that I dont need a phone or TV pacakge.

After a while the guy said I can downgrade & get just the 2mb package for £10 pm (dont know for how long, as I dont want that as I swear I get lag with 4mb when gaming).

The guy said No deals on the 4mb bb, only if I do their 'new customer deals' and get a couple of services, e.g phone & BB for £27 or his only alternative was 'just' 4mb BB = £25 pm

Ive got full package sky TV already for £10pm through sky multi room because my mums got sky already. I dont need a phone line as my mum has a bt one already. The guy was telling me to change over my mums bt line to virgin and I'll be getting a deal because Ill only be paying £27pm & only £2 extra on what Im paying for my current package.

Has anyone got any deals on just the 4mb bb lately ??? (Im thinking due to the 10mb upgrade they are unwilling)

maybe I might have to go with someone else or should I phone back ?

I feel hard done by seeing some of the great deals you guys have been offered I feel quite offended. He asked if I wanted to cancel etc, I said I'll work out my options and call back
  • I have just received a letter from Virgin Media asking for £160 from TSC credit management and pay it within 7 days (no other communication regarding this since June 2005)

I used to be a customer of NTL in June 2005 (12 month contract started in Dec 2004) and I left them in the middle of my contract as I moved house (outside UK) and they were not able to move the connection to my new house. Now in Feb 2008 I receive this letter about payment from Virgin Media.

While taking the connection I had mentioned on phone that if I have to discontinue can I do so and I would do so only if I have to leave the UK, the Customer representative assured me that I will be taken care of since it will be a one off genuine case.

I have not used their service from June 2005 to end of contract Dec 2005 (well someone else moved to that house after me and was using NTL ( may be a new contract)

    What should I do now?
  • Called VM and told the whole story and got the bill canceled hoping to receive it in writing soon.

I've had quite a few problems with VM. First of all, I got the phone. BT of course wanted to charge me £120 connection. Not on.

Virgin was the next best thing with just one month's depost and £15 for talk evenings and weekends. So the first bill was £30. Plus, they chucked in free basic TV, which wasn't bad considering the on demand services you get as standard.

First of all, the TV system broke down, and they tried to charge me £10 for not being in when the engineer came to fix it, although I had already cancelled it because I was on jury duty.

    They soon cancelled the charge.

I now have broadband TV and 2MB broadband for £13 per month, with cheaper mobile calls and talk evenings and weekends. I quoted the talktalk deal.

Don't let them try to send an engineer out to install broadband. It costs £30 and takes 5 minutes to do on your own provided you have plyers handy.

    Hi all,

I've paying £10 for 2m broadband for 12 months, but this month VM increased my bill back to
£18. I'm going to try my get 4M or 8M for £10. Has anyone been successful in doing this with
    VM?
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

this deal was for £19.95. Then i asked about my broadband, if he could upgrade that for the same price. He started to explain to me how VM's broadband speeds are the minimum speed you will get, whilst the Talk talk and any others using a phone line are the maximum speed which you are likely to get for only a few minutes at night.

So the normal customer service bull**** continues then
As a user you would know thats an incorrect statement
And it is NOT what they are saying publicly either
Just like everyother provider its "UPTO xx Mb

    Hi there,

Please can someone in the know give some advice:

I have called VM today to reduce my costs.

My bill currently looks like this: What they're now offering:
    Telephone line rental.......................£11.00 Same
    Talk Eve + W/End local....................£ 2.00 Anytime
    Talk E&W Loc, Bb M, Tv L Saving......-£8.50
    Fully Itemised Billing........................£ 1.00
TV, size XL...................................£20.50 Downgraded to L
    Broadband M (2Mb)........................£18.00 Upgraded to 4Mb
    (don't need this really)
    Total = £44.00 New Offer £37.95

What I really wanted to do was keep the same package (as the kidz would prefer the Tv channels and my broadband is enough for me) but reduce the cost. How would I fare elsewhere? And what kind of initial charges should I expect?

Any help will be much appreciated, as you guys are so clever with this stuff!

  • Just wanted to share my VM experience so far. We moved in to our house just before Christmas and got set up with phone size L and broadband M for £18.95 per month.

Our TV receiption is rubbish so I phoned up to add the basic TV package as the signal would be better through cable than through the outside aerial (i hope). I was told it would be an extra £4.50, in spite of the fact that it's advertised as "free with virgin phone". I was told the TV was free but that they couldn't give me as good a discount on my phone and broadband package as well and the extra £4.50 wasn't for the TV but for the talk evening and weekends phone package. This sounded like rubbish to me but i reluctantly agreed because the TV is hardly watchable at times.

The more i thought about it afterwards, the more annoyed I was so I phoned up to insist on the TV being added for free and they agreed right away. So I now have TV size M, broadband size M and phone size L for £18.95 per month for the next 12 months.

Clearly the first guy I spoke to was chancing his arm. It just goes to prove that what a lot of you are saying is right - keep ringing back until someone helps you.

It seems to me that you need to get the broadband part of your bundle redcued in price. They're advertising the broadband as £4.50 per month with virgin phone. You're giving them even more business than phone and broadband so they should honour what they're advertising. Ask them to put you back on the 2mb broadband and reduce the price accordingly.
