    would be interested to find out about the modem too, as the guy i spoke to upgraded me straight away to 10mb BB, i mentioned about a new modem and he said that i didn't need one, tha old one was fine... I had to swith the modem off for 5 mins and back on, but checking the speed with various website speed tests doesn't seem to get above 4mb (usually about 3mb), wonder if this IS the case?, anyone know for definate?

    thanks

    I may have missed it, but how much are you now paying please in total?

    Still paying £24.99 a month but on a much better deal, happy for the moment but when I have to phone up again in 3 months I'll get a much better deal again as I will then be able to threaten to leave the broadband.

    Just to add to other posts, when you do get a better offer get them to e mail or post a letter of the details just so you have a copy.
  • Phoned back again & got the Talk Unlimited for FREE for 3 months (Saving £14.50 a month) & also a £15 credit on my bill. Was told to phone back in 3 months to get more discounts. So at the moment that's a total discount of £58.50

    After reading all your tips called this morning on the 0800 and straight away got through. Was on the £55 month package (2mb, family pack TV, free evening & local calls) and said I's been shopping around at Sky & TT and what could they do.

    With no quibbling was instantly offered same deal at half price, saving £27 per month or £324 per year!! Also told that when this deal expires in 6mths to call back and they will give me another or at least match it!

    Very chuffed - thanks to all for your tips. been with NTL for 5 years - why didn't I do this earlier?!
  • I have just phoned NTL customer service and been told I can keep my 10 meg broadband connection and have talk 24 for £28.00 a month, a saving of at least £37 a month I reckon. Thanks everyone!
  • Hi, I'm quite lazy about these things generally, but after reading about everyones elses successes I thought I'd give it a go.
    I'm already with NTL so called the Cancellations number and said I had seen the Talk Talk deal. I didn't need to say anymore, they asked what I already had and started improving on my current deal!

    Did't get a huge £ saving but have managed to get upgraded services.
    Old Deal:
    Analogue TV Base Pack =£3.50
    Line Rental =£10.50
    Unlimited 1mb broadband=£19.99
    Total =£31.99

    New Deal for 6 months then to be reviewed:
    Digital TV Base Pack =£5.75 (includes 1 month free Family Pack)
    Talk Unlimited 24 +
    Unlimited 2mb broadband=£22.99(auto upgrade to 4mb from June)
    Total =£28.74

    They initially offered free evening local and national calls, but I said that didnt sound much and was then offered Talk Unlimited 24 which is free local and national day and eveing calls...saves the hassle of using override providers now!
    Also make sure you confirm that your deal won't be affected by their tariff increases from June!

    I used to have NTL 10Mbps BB and paid on average £7/month call charges giving a total of £41.99/month. 'Phone line rental is included in my digital TV package.

    I have called NTL and now pay £17.50/month for the next 12 months for 10Mbps BB and their talk unlimited 24 package.

    BB speed 2x talktalk in my area, twice the BB quota (75GB) for £3.49 less than talktalk. :j

    I didn't have to sign a new 12 month contract and can call anytime to change again. I called 0800 0529403 and selected option 2, stated that I have been doing price comparisons with talktalk and was advised that "We have some really good deals to match talktalk prices, I'll put you through if you'd like?"

    Called Telewest and only got half price broadband for 3 months, so rather than £25 per month for 4mb, its £12.50.

    They would not budge on the phone rental/calls

    Still a saving of £37.50 all in all
  • Contacted customer services, and informed them that I had researched the Talk Talk latest offer for Broadband and Telephone service and could get a better deal for £20.99 pounds per month. Pointed out although I was happy with their srevice I had to go for the best deal, unless they could offer something better.
    They spent some time pointing out pitfalls of Talk Talk, but could offer me £14 discount there and then.

    Yippee !:T :T

    Ok it seems to be pretty definate that the old modem would not be able to support 10mb. I phoned and seeing as i had both an ancient modem and remote control with no red button i was a bit miffed.

    They dont want to give anything away just now but finally and an hour speaking to so many people and contradictions. They wanted to charge £80 for the upgrades!! I am getting both the new modem so i will get the full benefit of the 10 mb (old one as stated before would have no hope of getting that) and also interactive all singing and dancing TV!!!! All this including the unlimited calls for £24. I am really pleased so thank you all for all the information and advice
