dominiquereynolds wrote:Well after reading that people were getting the 10mb cheaper than me I phoned them to get a better deal AGAIN. I am presently on
Talk Unlimited 24, Broad band 10mb for £30.99
I told them that people wee getting the same deal as this and much cheaper. The NTL guy said "no this is the cheapest they get". As they should know because they are the customer retention department.
Even mentioned that I had read about it here. He would not budge and said I was on the best deal they could offer!!
I did get it honest. I rang up and just said I want to cancel. Let them ask why. I was on hold for ages, went to reception after about 1/2 hour then another 15 min wait after I had said I wish to cancel. They sort of did a price promise. I have phone with BT and he said well thats £11 a month, talk talk is £20.99 so I will match and offer you broadband for £9.99. not getting 10mb speeds about 5 at moment, it is "upto 10 " I suppose.0 -
Before:
Line Rental: £11
512K BB: £9.99
Supreme Package: £11 (including £6.50 discount negotiated from before)
TV Drive: £10
I phoned TW (retentions) and told them I wanted to switch to TT. They couldn't offer anything, not even 2mb BB for 9.99 which I asked for. So I gave notice (with no intention of going ahead with it)
They rang me in a few days and offered me 2mb BB for 9.99 which I had asked for originally.
I have just entered a TV Drive contract and have very little leaway to play with else I wanted more off the tv packages. I guess I could have asked for unlimited calls but I use my mobile for daytime calls anyway. (If the unlimited calls included 0845/0870 then that would make it useful!!)0 -
Our current package is:
Starter TV £5.50
Telephone Line Rental £10.50 (soon to be £11)
4Mb Cable BB £25
Well I read this thread, wrote down facts and figures, summoned up my courage and phoned Telewest to see if they would offer any type of deal (hoping for a price drop on the BB) but got a smarmy guy who kept saying to everything "I quite understand..." and then said that he couldn't do anything to reduce the amount we pay each month, apart from cutting our broadband from 4Mb to 2Mb so that we could pay less that way  . Or he could charge us more by changing our phone to Talk Evenings and Weekends...this is after I said that we don't use the phone much anyway! (average bill £4)
If his motive was to confuse the hell out of me and make me go away with my brain hurting, it worked ! :wall:
I'm too intimidated to try again.0 -
Phoned Telewest today on 150 their free customer service line and requested disconnections. Spoke to a very helpful chap about moving to Talk Talk. After a lengthy Talk Talk bashing session  he made me the following offer:
Currently:
Phone £10.00 + Talk Unlimited £15.00
Broadband 4mg £25.00
Total:£50.00
Offer:
Phone
Still the same price but with the addition of "Anonymous Caller Rejection" normally price £1.75 per month chucked in for free.
Broadband
Reduced to £12.50 per month
Total: £37.50 + free caller feature
This offer only stands for three months and so was advised to call back in three months time to see whether they could offer me a better deal as they change quite frequently.:D0 -
First post on here, but I'm so pleased with my saving I wanted to tell all!
We were on the NTL 3 for 30 deal - phone line rental, TV base pack and 1Mb broadband for £30 per month.
One short phone call on their freephone number and we now have: phone line rental, TV base pack, 1Mb broadband, plus Talk Unlimited 24 (free calls to UK landlines all the time) for £20.49 per month.
Thanks to all for prompting me to make that call.0 -

At the moment, I have
Low usage line rental via NTL @ £5.99 per month
1MB Broadband via NTL @ £11.99 per month
When telephoning, I use 1899, which as you probably know, charge !p connection fee for Landlines, and 10p per minute for mobile calls.
I checked to see if I could get Talk talk's new package in my area, but a message came up to say that it wasn't available in my area?
As I am on an extremely low income, I am wondering if any of 'you experts' could advise me of a way of reducing changing my internet /phone, rental costs?
What exactly is the low usage line rental? my bill is very low as I use 1899 too but I'm still paying ordinary rental so whats the rules for paying low usage line rental? Is it the amount of calls you actually make or how much the monthly bill calls comes to and what if you go over the amount one month?Thanx

I am with Telewest.
I was / am paying £10.50 plus £15 for 24/7 phone. = £25.50.
They were giving me free call waiting, caller reject and caller display.
I have 2mb BB £14 down from £17.50.
total £39.50. Due to go up 50p soon.
I told them about TT, they weren't interested and now I am leaving in 30 days.
I didn't really want to go but it it's much cheaper on TT and as they won't budge I am offski.!
Be prepared for them to say goodbye, I have been with them many years.nothing.0 -
Is starter TV on NTL the same as base pack? as a few people have mentioned this but say its £5.50 rather than base pack of £10.50 so whats the difference?Thanx

Phoned ntl today, spoke with a nice lady at customer relations, told her that I was seriously thinking about cancelling my ntl services as I had a better offer with talk talk. She asked what they were offering, after telling her about their offer I asked her if she could offer me a better deal, and I would stay.
This is what I have ( digital t.v - family pack + sports pack, phone line + talk unlimied 24, 1mb broadband )
This is what I got:
Talk unlimited 24 free for 12 months. Normal price £14.50 a month.
1 extra box rental free for 18 months ( I have 2 extra boxes) normal price £15.00 a month.
1mg broadband £9.99 a month for 12 months. normal price £17.99 a month.
total savings £37.50 a month or £450.00 a year.
Not bad for one phone call, mind you I was put on hold for about 1/2 an hour before I got through to speak with someone. Still that was a small price to pay for the saving I made.
Hope this is of some help --- be firm and tell them exactly what you want!
Thanks Martin.:T0 -
