I have been pottering about HPC a bit and some of the threads have some real 'depth' to them.
    .

I opened up the gold investment forum my first time on HPC, read some threads, thought "these are a bunch of yankie nutbars", closed down internet explorer and didn't think to look for quite a long time after that.

    Is it actually worth reading?

If you had opened up the gold nutbar thread a few years back and acted on advice from the nutters you would have made a tidy penny. There is some good stuff, and a lot of rubbish. Exactly the same as any outlet.

Personally I think you are better off in this MSE forum reading my particular brand of rubbish. And thanking it as well of course. No thanks, no read - think of it like a subscription service, Murdoch style.

Hm, I think if I'd followed the advice current on the board at the time to purchase a years supply of baked beans, sell up, move to the country and start up a self-sufficient ranch with a dozen AK-47s and a rambo outfit, it would have cost me more money than the gold profit.

Just for fun you understand I'm going to pick holes in your argument.

Beans - can't go wrong with them, commodity, probably gone up in price.
Sell up - before crash - not a bad idea at all.
Move to country - self sufficiency - what coudl be more 'now' than that idea. Start with an allotment first, obviously.
AK-47's - well why the hell not.
Rambo outfit - whatever floats your boat.
Gold - a tidy profit was there to be made.

Just maybe in another two years of this we'll all want to be up in Linconshire somewhere with an AK47.

Flat terrain plus a long line of sight = a sniper rifle would be preferable.
