  • I know!!! thats what I was eeking about lol :) I thought well there is no point in going back before New Year lol :)

Yes its the same here if baby comes early then maternity leave starts from the day baby is born, but if that happens I can just tag my leave on to the end that I would have been using? does that make sense?

Aww well thats true, I did ask the question :)

  • Kindof - are you sure your bank holidays get accrued? I work closely with our salaries dept and have never seen that happen. Your normal holidays should accrue but bank holidays don't seem to. Obviously differrent companies have different terms and conditions but it will be worth checking.

I am hoping to take a full year off although there is some issue with my holidays because our year runs 1/10-30/9 and I am planning to use 16 days before my due date 1/11 when I start ML but if I want to return 1/11/10 then to use my remaining 14 days I need to return to work in October as they will only let you carry 5 days past 1st October. Which I have to say is the daftest thing I have ever heard. I just want to take the 14 days in October and return to work 1/11 or just get them paid whilst I am in my period of no pay - is it to much to ask??!!

Of course Jr will probably arrive in October and there will be no problem whatsoever!

XL - Joseph is gorgeous - well done you :)
Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)

Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early) :D

Xmas what a beautiful baby! xx
  • Xmas- he is sooooo gorgeous. Thank you for posting a pic!

Karen- I was most disappointed to find out my company don't accrue bank holidays when you're on ML. It's because they're not actually counted as holiday, or something! Not exactly sure, but I know I won't get them!

Bank holidays only accure if you get below a minimum amount of leave, I think it's around 25 days but can't remember. Glam will know! I get 27 days leave a year so my bank holidays don't accure but my leave days do however I'm only allowed to carry over 9 days each year so if I don't take all but 9 before I start ML I loose them - however HR said they would be a bit flexible if I had planned to take them but couldn't because baby came early or whatever.

I've posted my birth story on the thread :-)

I'm off to give bubs his first bath now with daddy he will probably scream the house down as he doesnt like being messed about seems quite content just to lay there and watch the world go by or sleep. I will catch up later and introduce myself on the parenting thread. Goodluck to you all and thank you again :-) xxx

Where did the morning go?! I got up and made some breakfast, watched a bit of TV and then went back to bed and before I know it it’s after 12! Best be quick as need to go out soon.

Squishy – so glad to hear from you. I was getting really worried about you! Glad you are getting some rest on your leave though. :D

Gymfiend – enjoy your sushi. Going to try and convince DH to go for some for dinner tonight before Parentcraft (but it’s a bit out of the way, so depends on time). Remember your 40% off voucher!! ;)

Muso – welcome. Nice to see another new name here. Perhaps poor Redstar can move off the bottom of the list now – she’s been there for ages!!! Lol.

Kindof – M/L is similar to me. I am taking 4 weeks A/L, then 6 months full pay, 3 months SMP, then tagging on any A/L and P/H at the end. If I go early, my Mat Leave does start automatically, but i have just informed work that any A/L I haven’t used at the start will then be tagged on to the end.
Also, when buying nappies, be careful of buying too many in bigger sizes in case your baby doesn’t like a particular brand (or in case you don’t). Asda have the event twice a year anyway, so you can always buy things from the April one next year when baby is still young.

Glam – hello, glad the feeding is going ok. Are you doing a mixture of breast and bottle then? I imagine I will end up doing this but some of the advice says it confuses babies and others say that babies are adaptable! Hope it’s all going well anyway.

Aless – well done on getting your pram. You would probably only use the carrycot for a few months anyway and as it’s winter you probably won’t be out quite as much so sounds like a good deal. Hope you are ok after your dizzy spell, not sure what that could be.

Karen – I have only started to think/worry about the birth in the past couple of weeks. Think it’s better that way! No point in stressing early!!!

Xmas – Joey is gorgeous. Thanks for the picture.

Hello to everyone else – away to get ready now! xx

    Hey Fitzio :)

I wondered about the mixed breast / bottle feeding too: really want to express as well so daddy can have a turn feeding bubs :D When I was at antenatal class a couple of weeks ago, I asked the midwife about this as she was recommending we express each day to build up a store etc. I had read on some sites not to try and bottle feed until after 6 weeks, and others said before: the midwife said we could just go ahead and start virtually straight away. :D
