Fitz, I'm going to see how it goes, our hospital are very pro water birth so I will take advise from them and see how I'm coping with the pain. I want to stay at home as long as I can as well, but as this is my first baby ive no idea what to expect or how to feel, so dont really feel like I can plan.. just get ready for the what if's... I'm going to get my hubby to speak up on my behalf if I'm unable to due to pain etc x

  • Not sure you need to 'fluff' the plan - as it's only a plan not a set of rules. Can't you just say you 'intend' to use the pool and leave it there? Am sure they won't hold you to the plan if you did get out! As your labour proceeds, you'll all be reacting to how it develops anyway I would have thought?

Sorry i can come across as a little pushy but i had to fight tooth and nail to begin with to get my home birth and it annoys me how some midwives (not all) just ride rough shod over what you would like as opposed to how they want it to be. Mountain your right fluid is probably better than fluffed.

Nanc glad everything went smoothly for you and your money is sorted :-) xx

Honestly i wonder about the use of some things so i do.
    WARNING Rant on it's way.
Remember when i was having my spat last week with the reception staff at the doc's, i was trying to find somewhere to go get a check other than A&E but had no luck(we dont have the walk in centers) and the out of hours service we have would just send me to A&E.

Any way i went onto the NHS 24 site and asked in it's help section if their were any self referral centers i could go to as all the ones i could find were for drug addicts and teenagers etc. explained about problems at the doc's and how EPC needed doc's referral too.

Well i just got an email that my reply was back, so had a look. It only say's on it if you have any concerns see your doctor who will refer you to the appropriate dept:rolleyes: Honestly what use is that.

    i'm back!!

BP was 120/80 which is fab for me!!

was a diff mw than we usually see but it was the mw who did the parentcraft class so she remembered us.
so i explained my concerns about the lack of information i'm gettng at the hospital clinic with regards to when i go in/call delivery unit, pain relief options everything really. and also my concerns about always hving a junior dr when we go to the ante natal clinic.

anyway- she rang the ante-natal clinic and has requested that for our next appintment we either see the consultant, who we first saw or their deputy and that I dont want to see a Junior doctor

said for pain relief- epidural is the best for me as it lowers BP etc
when i start labour have to ring the delivery unit straight away as with my history they will want me monitored a lot more closely than a normal birth. and let them make a decision on when i go in

and she reckons that they will prob induce me.

anyway, it was a great appointment and i feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. i can relax now a lot.

Seems we all did OK on our appointments this morning! My BP 125/80 and pee clear so back in 2 weeks.

**WARNING - RANT ** And I promise I don't read the Daily Mail or anything like that but if you are going to have a doctor doing a clinic !!!!!! can you employ one that understands and speaks coherent English who can answer my questions and knows where to find things in your notes without randomly flicking back and forth (booking in information I am guessing must be on the first page for everyone???) and I had to show him the page where the midwife had just written my bp this morning. When I asked him why I needed a GTT and what it was, he couldn't tell me so I asked the midwife afterwards who told me the routine for the trust is a BMI of 27+ (was 29 at booking in) and explained it to me.

Boss seems to be having a long lunch so back to ebay for me, me thinks, to calm my rant :)

    Morning everyone,
Whilst I remember, another thing that was said at PC classes last night was that we are not allowed to eat or drink in the hospital, so we should have a snack at home before going in. I thought this was a more old fashioned thing and that hospitals were less likely to insist on it. I understand it’s because if you need an emergency c-section, you can’t have been eating, but would you not think that drinking fluids was ok (at least for energy). She said sips of water if you are lucky! Anyone else know what their hospital allows? If not, definitely ask!

    x

I think that my hospital said we were allowed to eat. In my Ina May book it says that some people want to eat and other don't but if you are having a long labour it's best to eat to keep your energy up. Also she says that you should drink lots as going to the toilet often helps you relax down there! There are also arguments that eating doesn't effect having a c-section but can't remember where I read that (might have been in the book also :o).
