just need to stop worrying that i'll be back in hospital, as that will raise my BP so i do end up back there again (if that makes sense at all)

Morning everyone,
Had a long lie today for the first time in ages (although was still up several times during the night but with bad finger pain rather than toilet breaks!). It’s not fair!
CB – baby girl is gorgeous. She looks so snug.
Jillie, Always and GISI – good luck with appointments today. I am 36 weeks and only being seen every 2 weeks. I thought it would have been weekly by now. Anyone else the same? Not that I am complaining as its been reasonably straightforward.
Lou – get an avatar! Was laughing at your Neighbours breakdown! Definitely hormones!! Ha ha.
CSH – hope you get things sorted out with your daughter. No idea what the weather is like here as I have still to open the curtains!
Beenie – thanks for the update on Tigs baby.
ML – the midwife is of the opinion that for a first birth, you don’t know how someone will manage and whether they will need intervention etc so a hospital birth is better. I doubt that this is across the board as I dare say you can have 1 birth which is smooth and 1 birth which is a disaster, but I have no idea on the stats and for myself, I would prefer to be in hospital with the comfort of knowing that help is there if required. I am happy to hear her opinions and recommendations, but it’s definitely not giving people much of a choice in the way it’s put across.
Whilst I remember, another thing that was said at PC classes last night was that we are not allowed to eat or drink in the hospital, so we should have a snack at home before going in. I thought this was a more old fashioned thing and that hospitals were less likely to insist on it. I understand it’s because if you need an emergency c-section, you can’t have been eating, but would you not think that drinking fluids was ok (at least for energy). She said sips of water if you are lucky! Anyone else know what their hospital allows? If not, definitely ask!

OMG ive found some but you can stick a 1 infront of that figure 32b think i will get out the pool when needed cant afford that. Just had a thought though my friend is a midwife and she is coming to my birth if she is not on duty maybe she can borrow a waterproof one from another midwife.:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
Fitzio that midwife sounds like something out of the dark ages with all the rules and regs and recomendations. I have to say majority of women opt for a hospital birth first time for the very reasons you state but there is no reason why a first timer cant have a home birth or a water birth if the pregnancy has gone smoothly. That midwife will be frightening the poor women to death carrying on like that. Just goes to show how different authorities are run they actively encourage home birth here if everything is text book. I had a bit of a fight on my hands due to my history i didnt win every battle but i won the war :j:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Fitzio - tbh that should just be mentioned as one of the potential 'cons' - she may have an opinion in general, and she may advise her own patients according to their personal circs, but in her role as teacher, that's not appropriate to express it to a group in such a directive way - they need to make their own minds up...
The problem is that a lot of ppl aren't even exposed to the idea, or the facts about HB so they can make an informed choice. We were the only ones at our NCT thinking about it but after talking to us, a few said they would have liked to at least had that discussion with their MWs. If your MW doesn't mention it and your ante-natal teacher is anti, what chance do you have of weighing up all your options and coming to the best decision for you? It may still be a hospital birth, but you still deserve to have all the info at your disposal.
BTW, I'm still on 2 weekly... am 37 this week. Seeing MW today so she may bump me up to weekly. She's definitely 'light touch'!MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!
