It's highly unlikely that given the news over the past couple of days that it's the 'normal' FTB'r coming back.
Obviously the figures will prove the situation over the next 12-24 months and show us whether we are in a hefty bounce or whether this indeed is the new level.
ad9898???! Didnt think you were the type to 'sockpuppet'.0 -
How does contract staff equate with obtaining a large loan, like a mortgage for example?
You can't get a mortgage...... Employment can be terminated at a weeks or months notice. Though you could possibly get a permanent position if one becomes available or otherwise the position would be terminated before the 2 year time limit.
Thats why it affects this age group as they are unlikely to be looking to purchase at this age. Considering the wage they would earning would be a struggle in any event.0 -

i've been a contractor for the past 7 years, you earn 40% plus than permanent staff.
never had an issue with getting a mortgage or any credit issues. a number of friends are contractors too and have never had issues either.0 -

You don't earn 40% more in Swindon doing menial work. :rolleyes:0 -

Not all contractors earn 40% plus than permanent staff. :rotfl: You seem to equate everything in your life as is for everyone else. Very bad mistake that.0 -

apologies, i hadn't realised that your post indicated menial workThrugelmir wrote: »In Swindon the unemployment level for the under 26's is 1in 6.
There are numerous cases of young people already having been made redundant 2 or 3 times already in their working lives. As most major employers ( BMW, Zurich, Honda, Nationwide, MAN Truck & Bus etc), now employ contract staff. Not permanent employees. So every change in the wind means that staff can be laid off, rehired and laid off again. The lack of permanent work is becoming a major issue.
but back to the point - contractors cannot get a mortgage right?

I would have thought if they are hiring and firing every 5 mins an agency would make more sense than contracts.0
