    Morning everyone :hello:

Happy Birthday Elona :bdaycake:Hope you have a lovely day. x Also many happy returns to Mis N9Eav _party_
Sorry about the weevils Bitsy but storage jars will be a good investment.
Glad you had a fun day out yesterday Hester.
Celyn, we are looking forward to our first fungal foray at the weekend. We have a secret chantarelle patch in the woods. :D
Good luck with DD's appt Stef.
Sistercas we had a clear night here and very little light polution but I still didn't see anything.
DG, I make a thick cheese and spring oinion sauce for tinned salmon and wrap the mixture in pancakes and oven bake with some more cheese. They are delicious.

Thanks for the good wishes for yesterday's appointment. It all went fine. I have a quick hospital stay next week which is a pain as I go in on the last day of the girls' holidays. icon9.gif:rolleyes:

Was awakened this morning by a neighbour asking me to move my car as she was having her hedge cut. We only have room for one car outside the house and as we live on a single track road there are only a few laybys to park. OH nicked my space last night so I parked down the road. Anyway, I stumbled into some clothes and went off to move the car only to remember half way down the road that I'd parked it in the opposite direction, nowhere near her hedge. Not only did I have a wasted walk, I realised when I got back that in my haste I had put on OH's jeans. :o Shame... I just thought I'd lost some weight. :D

The girls and I are clearing out their clothes today and charity shopping all that doesn't fit. I have washing to hang out and the DW to empty. HM salmon pate for lunch and have lifted sausagemeat and pastry out of the freezer to do some herby sausage rolls for tea. Will have them with salad as a friend brought me some of his tomatoes and spuds yesterday. I think he was showing off :D as I have thousands (literally) of green tomatoes and he lives 3 miles down the road and his are all red.

Plans for the rest of the day are to buy dog food and bird food and book the hairdressers for next week. Then I'm taking the girls on a boat trip to visit a seal colony.

God, I have mioliered.:o You can tell I'm missing my morning chats with Pink, she likes listening to my drivel :o..... Aussie doesn't have the concentration span for long posts so she's probably nodded off.:p:D

    Take care all. xxx

    Morning All

:beer:Many Happy Returns to Elona & Miss N9eav:beer: Hope you both have a great day:j

Good Luck for the hosptial appointment Stefejb

Mioliere - hope the phone rings soon.

It looks like a lovely day out there today so I am trying to get the essentials done in the office so we can get out today. Think will be a visit to a local park then a walk & a coffee along the canal.

Dont have to cook today :jour favourite local coffee shop put on a few barbeques throughout the summer and we are off to one tonight. The food is plentiful and superb - you can eat as much as you like and I am really looking forward to it.

Work is still mad and I am not catching up with myself but the kids have been ignored the last few days, I will just have to try and get myself organised over the next week or so.

OH's knee is slightly better but he is very slow on his crutches, the kids and I dont have much patience so keep leaving him behind :rotfl:think will leave him sitting on a bench whilst we have our walk later.

Am so annyoyed that I have missed the first 2 episodes of Economy Gastronomy. Will try and sort out iplayer later - not used it before.

Best be off, have a great day.

  • Hi Moiliere
I was interviewed about taking in lodgers, it seems Dot Cotton is taking in a lodger so they wanted to interview someone old to get their views, lol. June Brown who plays Dot Cotton is in her 80's at 57 I was probably the nearest they could get!!

Well done on your interview on radio! Please don't say that 57 is near to 80; it's the age I am in less than a month (57, I mean, not 80!).

Bitsy - you poor thing. That sounds as bad as finding out someone left the freezer door open all night and all the food has defrosted. I hope you've managed to eradicate them completely now, after all your hard work tracking them down.

Essex-Girl - iPlayer is really easy to use. I don't have access to it here in France but I've used it in the UK and it's easy peasy, honest! I'm not sure if there's a limit to how long the programme is available for, though, so best to try and watch both episodes soon.

just ordered £50 theme park vouchers with my clubcard vouchers . would have been £84 for a family ticket at Flamingo land so only £34 to pay :j
I will pack a picnic to save money too

Bitsy  to the flour bugs , makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. I cleaned my cupboard out yesterday but thankfully didnt notice any bugs
  • Morning all :)

Washing done and out, and I'm off into the garden to do some weeding, pruning and clearing of space to see where and how I can grow some veggies next year inspired by the lovely veggie growers on here and the Grocery Challenge thread, although I may be able to get some winter veg in anyone have any suggestions?

I watched the Eco Gast prog this morning whilst having my morning coffee and carefully scanned the table of the monthly shop, it was food only!!! How much extra do they spend on cleaning stuff and toiletries? Or does the monthly shop total include all that stuff but they only put the food out? Did anyone else notice that the store where the main shop was done was Asda again? Do you think Mr A sponsored the programme somehow. They'd save even more if they shopped around at other stores. From their location there is a huge Mr T just across the road from the Mr A with an Aldi and a Farmfoods not that far away If the family next week shops at Mr A only I'll smell a rat! Bit worried that each family is spending more each week it's something like £21,000 next week isn't it? I know the point of the programme, but I think a lot of people with low budgets tuned in expecting tips on how to make gastronomy meals on a tight budget with the current economic climate, I was one of them. But what it seems to be doing is showing the 'luxury' end of spenders as far as most people are concerned. It's making me wonder what the average monthly spend on food is in the UK? I almost fell off the sofa laughing at £20 for the meat, they picked up 4 pre packs from Asda how much cheaper if they'd gone to a local butcher or used mince, or would it cost the same?

Bitsy - if you have any bay leaves put one in with your flour and savoury things it repels the little blighters, same happened to me last year and my auntie told me about using bay leaves. I did it and cleaned the cupboard out and haven't had a plague of them since. If you don't have any bay PM me your address and will send you a couple of branches, I have 2 bushes and about to prune them today.

Haribo - You'll have the last laugh and tomato! When you're friend has eaten all their red ones you'll be tucking into yours, still nice of them to share though :)

Right off to the garden and baking a lemon verbena cake and some apple bran muffins this aftie. Have a good day everyone, hugs to one and all :)

Well I've thoroughly sprayed bleach into both cupboards and their shelves and also into my wooden bread bin just in case. I might be able to go and have a shower now!!! Bin men have been carted off said offending articles so hope they all have a happy life living on my flour on the landfill ;)

Essex-girl - iplayer is dead easy. Just go to BBC website, enter Econ Gastron (in full I just can't be bothered) into the search box and it will bring up related items. Second link down is iplayer epidsode. Click on the link and once it's loaded press play and watch away!

Happy birthday to elona - sorry was sidetracked with evil weevils. Hope you have a good day.

Morning everyone :) and Happy B'day to those celebrating today

Thank you to everyone for their kind words y'day regarding my Nan ... she had a few seizures yesterday but has been stable through the night... I really don't know how she manages to keep fighting ... some very bizarre conversations about a dog sat at the end of her bed and a lettuce sat on the other side but she could still remember and recite the rhymes she taught us when we were little so still with it at times :o

People are trying to keep me occupied during my holiday as I get bored easily when I don't have a project going! So today I've gotta take my OH's wheel to have a puncture repaired ... do the shopping at Aldi and Tescos ... and my Mum wants me to go shopping and put together a bathroom products hamper from the family for my other nan as she has had her 1940's bathroom ripped out and replaced from top to bottom which she's really excited about but with everything going on with my other Nan Mum is a bit worried we're not there to celebrate with her :o

Weather is sunny here so I shall get all my washing out on the line :) ... also gotta practice my aim with the water pistol as our cats are being picked on by the local tom cat who comes through their cat flap and demolishes their food ... costing us a fortune ... plus it ate their annual worming treatment yesterday

Hi Kathy :0) The shows on iPlayer stay there as long as the series runs and about 7 days after the last one, then they disappear. You can watch them online via the show link www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00m2790 (as at 11am today the BBC website appears to be down but when its back the above link will work!). Anyone with NTL can pick them up on the BBC iPlayer section on Catch Up TV if you check out the 'Series' section. Currently lists both episodes of Econ Gast and others, I just watched an episode of What To Eat Now that I missed the other week this morning.
