Grrrr apparantly yes they can. I've just had to chuck about 3 full bags of flour and one open one.
Can they "move" from one cupboard to another? Where I store my cooking stuff (eg flour etc) is above the kettle but kettle has been there since we moved in about 7 years ago and not had this problem before. I don't warm the kettle with up underneath the cupboard anyway due to not wanting to damage the cupboard.
i have 3 bags of bread flour stored in another cupboard other side of the kitchen to this one. Can they get over there????

Now I need to check all my other flour too. Can these things get into unopened packets of flour?

 _pale_ Bitsy I am not 100 % sure but i think the little Blighters can squeeeeeze through the smallest gap, so check all your flour, the whole cupboard will need taking out and disinfecting, there is a great thread on the subject on here somewhere, I also read that if you freeze and then defrost any new flour it should stop them, good luck x0 -
thanks. I did a quick google and found a an old thread on here.
Checking my other flour and it looks OK. I mean there are small black bits but I think that's the husk from the grain as its pin hole sized and they aren't moving.
I've never had this happen and typically kids are now demanding me and I have to get this sorted first.
Do they eat stuff like sugar????
Edited to add opened my last bag of bread flour from other cupboard and theres a couple in there. So that's 6 bags of ruddy flour wasted. Now I am really annoyed and cross :mad:I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Bitsy, I think its best to check all your dried goods, I know its a terrible waste, but better than eating them :eek:0

Thankfully most of the stuff in my cupboards are in sealed containers or jars or in sealed packets but will thoroughly check them anyway.
Mind you I gave a cauli from the garden to my mum the other day and she commented on the number of caterpillars she got out of it. I just told her it was extra protein. Perhaps I should view the weevils as that or a bit of fibreI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all
Bitsy, the safest way is to keep all you flour, oats etc. in sealed plastic boxes.
It rained here overnight, but is brightening up now, hubby has been fed & dropped of at work.
I had a lovely day out yesterday with the grandkids, I even ended up on the local radio!
Plans for today include, stuffing yet another marrow, vacuumimg upstairs & more sewing.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Here's the link to the biriyani - it's part of the quick-spiced chicken thighs recipe that was on the programme last night http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/quickspicedchickenth_92025.shtml
I started watching the programme fully expecting to find the family intensely irritating, but I really liked them all and was very impressed with how they threw themselves into the task ahead, and even cut down their budget by another £40. Although the £160 they had got it down to would last me a lot longer than a week, it was impressive stuff.
Enjoy!

What did you do on the radio, Hester?; might be able to pick it up on iplayer.
Bitsy - I know it seems like a dreadful waste but the family on the next Economy Gastronomy episode spend £21,000 a year on food and waste a third of it! So don't be too hard on yourself!
Halight - the twins might have conjunctivitis; don't worry, it's not serious and is easily treated so, if I was you, I'd take them both to the doctors together.
Sistercas - that's not a bad price for the Econ Gastro book, is it? I might have to treat myelf to it. I'll order it when I get back to the UK - whenever this grandchild puts in an appearance! - and get it sent to DS1 or DS2's house.
Happy Birthday Elona - have a fab day!
Donny-Gal - yes, having seen how significant the 15th is on Facebook I can see that it's a good day on which to be born! If I've already left the UK by then, have a fantastic day!
Redruby - my 'thanks' button suddenly reappeared! How's the house move going? Hope it's all running smoothly.

Right I've had to chuck the following:
6 bags of flour (5 of which were unopened grrrr)
Half a packet of country soup mix
half a packet of salad mix (couldn't see any but if they are in the country soup mix they are bound to be in there)
A cheapie tupperware type box with salad mix in it - they've managed to squeeze into there
Some muffin cases as they are crawling all over them
3/4 of a packet of herbal tea bags - again it was crawling with them
some raisins
1/3 packet of ground almonds (this I do begrudge as they're not that cheap)
3/4 packet of dried noodles
and a bit of quinoa (sp?) - this I don't mind as it's blinkin' vile.
Can't see anything in my tub of cous cous but will have to keep an eye on that. Likewise my coco - although I feel sooooooo itchy and unclean (daft I know) I might chuck it anyway.
what a blinkin' waste and I don't have the money at the mo to replace half of it. H is working on Saturday so I might see if my mum fancies a trip to Ikea to buy some proper sealed jars (again more money I ain't got).
Only bright side is I've tidied up and cleaned these two cupboards.
Edited to add: I didn't want to chuck them in the bin for fear of them sneaking out of there so I threw it on the patio by the back door!!!!
Better get out there and sweep up before bin men come and take the other stuff away!I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
