I think I've just found something the K800i can't do - shuffle the music tracks ( I hate being able to predict what comes next - reminds me of being a teenager and playing the cassettes recorded on Sunday evening of last weeks top 20)

Can an 'ordinary' MP3 player do that?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I'm in the market for an mp3 player but I wont be buying the touch or other models of ipod. Nothing to do with sound, though I'll now take that into consideration.

The way I look at it is: Can This play mp3's... yes. Can That play mp3's... yes. This can play mp3's and cost a third of the price of That, so This wins. Added bonus is This has better sound quality too (debatable as that might be).

Are but you argue That can do other thing like.. blar blar. Who cares I argue I want an mp3 player and those things are wasted.

Most mp3 players can shuffle songs.

I like to make smart playlists on my iPod and shuffle them, which takes it to another level. I also use the Genius feature to shuffle my music, which works really well.

You can buy an 8 GB iPod Nano from the Apple Refurb Store for £79. You won't find anything even vaguely comparable for a third of the price.

If you want something that just plays mp3s, you can get a 1 GB Shuffle for £18, or a 2 GB one for £25.

But Marty J, you can use the one in your mobile 'phone for nothing. :money:

    That's a lot less than a third of £79 (for a refurb).

Or, looked at another way, you can spend £79 on a reasonable pair of headphones to use with your mobile 'phone, instead of paying £79 for a refurbed iPod Nano that "is easily outclassed by alternatives" and comes with headphones that are "absolutely awful". (Your words).

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

You can get a 16GB Walkman (S639) for around £90. And you don't need any music-management software with it.

Saving £90 by using the one in your mobile phone, instead, is an even greater saving than saving a third of £79 (£26.33).

True. The SQ of mp3s on a mobile, though, is poor.

The standard models = nothing if compared with other fully featured MP3 players. An iPod is an MP3 player.

The iPod Touch however is a very different beast with huge potential.

Everyone wants something different, it's up to you, try them: the sound quality, build quality, interface etc. Asking a Q like that on here will get the usual arguments, people who don't like Apple saying they are overpriced and people that do saying they are great.

FWIW they win most of the recommendations in gadget mags, we have 3 in the family and all perform flawlessly, I appreciate the quality, and am happy to pay more. I think they are beautifully crafted devices.

However if you understand music and quality, then swap the headphones for a better pair and rip your music collection at the best quality MP3 or using lossless formats if you have the space,

    Each to their own.
