  • Coz the ipod looks cool.
I have an ipod classic that I won but if I had to buy one NO WAY!

I hate itunes and find my daughters MP3 player much easier to load from the PC.

Because they're beautiful devices that are exceptionally well built. They sound just as good as any other mp3 player; I have compared them to just about everything I can lay my hands on on my Shure SE530 earphones, AKG and Sennheiser heaphones and professional studio monitors. Anyone who thinks there's a massive difference between one mass produced $5 sound chip and another is deluding themselves.

They're supremely easy to use, as is iTunes. I have never understood why there seems to be an ever-present minority who have trouble dragging something from one part of the screen to another, but alas, it is so. They have no problem doing it on their "drag and drop" mp3 players, but ask them to do them same thing in iTunes, and they're stumped. Bizarre.

The iPod has the largest number of aftermarket accessories by an embarrasing degree. If someone makes something for mp3 players; they make it for the iPod.

Lastly, I'm typing this on my iPod. The iPod Touch is ridiculously functional; when I first got mine, it was a week before I remembered that it plays music. It blows everything else on the market out of the water.

it just works out of the nice box, no brainer, I have three or four and given several as gifts, never had a complaint yet.

You've been doubly lucky; gifts and no complaints! :)

Personally, I've had two and had problems with both. Apple do not even respond to e-mails.

Check out http://forums.ilounge.com/ and you will see a huge number of people suffering from very common problems like freezing and track skipping (and loads of other common faults), and also many complaints about Apples' lack of after-sales service.

Don't get me wrong, I've had a lot of pleasure from the ipod (when it worked), but I've also had a lot of times when I would have happily smashed it to pieces with a sledge hammer!

I'd definately look at a different brand (by checking forums) before getting another ipod.

    Thanks for the constructive criticisms.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Samsung P3, Cowon S9, Sony S and X Series. All sound better than any i-pod and don't require i-tunes. Or any other software.

Rip everything to Lame 3.98.2 V0 then just drag and drop.

I'd add iRiver to that list.

There are definitely things that sound better than an iPod (and have added functionality, e.g. an FM radio) and cost less. Some even come bundled with a half-decent set of earphones.

The only thing wrong with iPod is the crappy earphones it comes with. Get a decent set and it sounds as good as anything else on the market.

Aftersales service is fine. I bought a Mini for my daughter from Amazon which failed after 9 moths. She took it to her local Apple store and they replaced it on the spot.

I just rip the tracks to 256 kbps and use the player in my mobile 'phone (a Nokia N82) with decent headphones. :o

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

    wrong

true the earphones are awful but even with the same same song and same headphones next to the x series it sounds much worse

ipods(new ones) are much like swiss army knifes; they can do alot of useful stuff, but never as well as the dedicated tolls, ie a proper high end music player
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
  • What an odd question - it's like saying "Why should i buy a BMW rather than another car?"

Do you want lots of storage? Do you want to use it whilst jogging? Do you want to play games on it? Browse the web on it?

Personally, i wanted all my music (about 30gb of it) on the go at once. At the time, the iPod classic was the best choice. In fact, i still think its the most economical choice if you want a lot of storage. I'm not an audiophile. I've got a set of Shure headphones, so my ipod sounds good enough for me. Sure, a Sony model may be better - but they don't make a competing model.
