  • I've been in contact with a company today who have helped me with the disaster that Wolstenholmes had got me into.

:TContact a company called Your Conveyancing Services on 0845 678 8112. Their web address can be found if you gooogle them.

They helped me so much, :A I spoke to two lovely ladies called Maddy and Sara and they've started to put through a new sale transaction for me. It was great to actually speak to someone who was helpful and knew what they were talking about. I thought I was going to lose moving into my dream house because of Wolstenholmes but Your Conveyancing Services have saved the day for me. i've spent a week trying to get hold of someone, anyone at Wolstenholmes - how could they do this to so many people.
  • Well chaps, sadly to say, Wolstenholmes has now closed its doors, as of Thursday 17th. The day before i was due to exchange in order to prevent me losing my new house. My partner, our new baby and I are now stranded in a one bed flat for the foreseeable future because Wolstenholmes were unable to complete the sale of my flat from me to my own father, who also used Wolstenholmes, a deal which had been going on since late September. Jo Davis, ridiculous, never replied to mail or took your comments on board, Peter Dawes, had the sense to leave midway through after ignoring all of our communication and Carl Horstman, best of a bad bunch. I received no warning from them of the mass walkout, first i knew when i got a phone call from Stirling Law to say they were acting for me. Thanks Wolstenholmes...thanks a bunch
    1. Just over two months ago, I purchased a flat using Wolstenholmes Birmingham's office'services. The purchase went through relatively smoothly. I have now received a demand from the Inland Revenue saying that they have yet to receive the Stamp Duty on that purchase. I have been completely unable to contact them. My advice is not to have anything to do with this company.

The exact same thing has happened to me, the IRS letter fell through my letter box on Friday. I thought i was in the clear and away from these people but clearly not.

Both the legal complaints service and law society recommend paying the IRS and then making a complaint and getting compensation that way. Just in case you have the same other issue as I did it is worth ringing the Land Registry to confirm they have registered the property - something else they failed to do for me...it seems there post completion strategy is to just do nothing.
  • I dont wish to alarm you all too much, but Wolstenholmes is the current venture of two brothers, who last year scammed off millions when their previous business Dialamobile went bust.

I think Discovery's post is a little alarmist.

A solicitors firm is highly regulated by the SRA. There are particular rules about supervision and client account money for starters and, as appears to be the case, provision for intervention where client care / professional standards aren't being met. There are also compensation provisions where appropriate.

I have no personal experience of Wolstenholmes and agree that everyone's experience of their service, as described on all the various threads, is absolutely disgraceful. But comparing a solicitors firm to a non-solicitors business is like comparing chalk and cheese.
  • actually, from personal experience, discoverys thread is almost spot on.

Does the SRA exercise the same due diligence as the FSA?
  • Last week we had a cheque from Wolstenholmes Client Account to refund our deposit money paid to them in anticipation of completion. Today we have found out that the cheque has not cleared through the bank! Needless to say we are devastated at this news. Have tried to contact Wolstenholmes but they are not answering the phone and emails are unanswered.

Complaint already lodged with Legal Complaints and have spoken with them again today. Awaiting a call back from them.

We have also been trying to retrieve our file from Stirling Law in Oldham for four days now. They keep promising to ring us back but dont. Managed to speak to someone this morning who again has promised to ring me back. Asked them about Wolstenholmes and they categorically stated that they have nothing to do with Wolstenholmes, they have just been passed files to sort out and complete!!

    Can anyone offer any advice?
