Not sure airmiles is really the way to go
£600 of pts ( at standard rate of 60 for £2.50 rate - I actually get 80 buts thats another story ) would buy me 14400 miles- not enough for 2 flights ( as 8000 each) let alone accomodation. So these BA flights - london - at 8000 miles cost £500 cash in case or £333 in tesco points each
But I could travel from regional airport for £415 cash anyway.

    Your missing a trick here...
Get a ticket to Boston for 5000 airmiles, then use Air Tran or similar cheap internal flight to Las Vegas. Current price is around $140 US (85 quid) plus the 208 quid of airmiles for the UK-USA flight. Saves you 40 quid on the total, and gives you an opportunity to stop over in a really beautiful city, unless you just book the flights with a 4 hour changeover so you can just "change" planes, allowing for customs/immigration time. Worked a treat for me, and I got to visit Boston on the way out, and stretch my legs on the way back. You could do an "open jaw" flight and go out via Boston and back via New York if you wanted for no extra charge.

BUt is it Tesco who have placed the restrictions or Cosmos and Virgin? I have emailed to ask Tesco why etc and more to the point why such short notice - that was 3 days ago and no reply as yet.

I have a feeling that it maybe the patners after all they maybe suffering more than tesco - my undertsanding is that they pay half and tesco pay half of the 4 times. Now in this current climate, holidays are bound to take more of a back seat, so maybe Virgin and Cosmos can no longer afford to give such a high percentage away.

It still does not excuse that short notice, the fact it only went on the website yesterday and that the tour ops have loaded the prices ready for the rush until 1st sept.

I heard that someone booked a holiday with Virgin this week and following their booking they asked who had imposed the restrictions and was told it was Tesco!

I think that would be the travel company's answer regardless....theyre hardly going to say that they only expected people to use £200 or £300 worth towards a holiday, instead of paying for the whole holiday...........sounds to me the same as French Life, Motorpoint and MFI to name a few......they didnt realise people would be paying with 100% Deals....

I can see NO advantage in Tesco's insisting on this, and I hate Tesco, so have no reason to support them!!

And imho, Airmiles are greatly overpriced, and you can always seem to find flights, much, much cheaper...but if they do package holidays it may be ok...

Ive got £7k+ i need rid of...so better get my finger out, before they ALL pull out.
    Couponing....."every little hurts"

Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.

You hate Tesco...see no reason to support them, yet you have £7K+....bit of a contradiction...you must love them to have supported them as much as that?...if you really did hate them surely you would stand by you principals?
I love Tesco...I get great service, good quality at a great price...I have £1500, had 1 free holidays and seveal lots of Irish Ferry crossings...I'm disappointed not to be able to have a 'free' holiday again, but can use points for other things...mag subs, days out,RAC m/ship, and jewellry

Please do tell us how you manage to do this?!! I always used to shop at Tesco until recently, but the quality has deteriorated significantly and I find them significantly overpriced compared to Asda, Morrisons and even Sainsburys. The final straw was the awful quality of their meat - we do most of our shopping at Sainsburys now and IMHO you really can Taste the Difference!

The manager and assistant manager always greet by my name, the trolley 'lad' is the best ever....the Sa's are always pleasant and helpful. The butcher is a Master Butcher, he recommends various cuts of meat and always points out the offers and the meat is beautifully presented...the fishmonger likewise...I have never had anything of 'poor' quality from them. They are cutting/matching prices and their offers are brilliant.....the store I use is immaculately clean and alwys well stocked , I hate Asda...so noisy and brash........each to their own.... ...I have Tesco for telephone line rental and calls, get Tesco points with Eon, and have Tesco Travel Insurance, guaranteed no probs when using your deals vouchers for hols/breaks....
I was invited in to the managers office a few weeks ago as he wanted my opinions on his store...had I any any complaints or suggestions...Tell me now ...has your Asda or Morrisons ever asked/cared you personally what you think?

thanksfor the idea, the the saving is not worth the hassle , as airmile flight would be from London .. if flying from london I would want to be direct. Travel on 2 separate tickets - not worth the risk IMHO

Yes..I hate them, ....Local, area and National bans, to show for it...After the feast of RnR....All my points were gained during the height of mutiple mocs, and points coupons, where(along with £4k of Health and Beauty in my loft) paid NOTHING for it...in fact during this period, Tesco were paying US to take stuff away....we were using upto £50 worth of coupons on £30 worth of HB...getting £20 of food for free.....Cant be bothered to explain further....read some of my old posts...

Recently we were getting up to 4000points(using multiple codes) on less than £50 bogof food orders....and similar on bogof or 3 for £10 wine orders......

If youre clever enough, its possible to still find some of these...but theyre very few and far between now...

Yes I hate them....yes they'll give you a DTD, but what about the 4000 old ladies that dont know theyve been overcharged...do Tescos care....of course not....
