It is if you don't change them for a long period of time. I am well aware of it, but it's basically that he wears them until they don't feel comfortable (which is just over a month, maybe 6 weeks) and then he changes them.

    Thanks

    GW

Granted if they monthlies they are suppose to be worn for 4 weeks fair enough. But to me stretching it to 6 weeks is not a good idea monthlies or not.

Personally I could loose most things e.g hearing but never my sight. One reason why if I wore contacts I would not mess about with the timings. After 4 weeks I would change them.

But it is up to him. But then I would never wear them in the first place as I can't stand putting things in my eyes.

You're absolutely right, lynzpower. Telling them you've decided to follow their lead on the Christmas budget is a brilliant idea.

You don't necessarily have to "have it out" with them about how they treat you. You just have to be selfish and think about yourself.

What's going to feel unpleasant for longer: saying no (takes anything from 10 seconds to 5 mins depending on what they say back) or paying off what it's going to cost you if you go along with it (er, months?).

I work it out like that and the saying no ALWAYS wins! Then keep that reasoning in your head, grit your teeth, and just say no! It's empowering, it really is.

Gratz on the work front with hubby, bet he is feeling a bit less stressed now too!

I suggest converting to a religionthat doesn't celebrate Chrsitmas,. just for december. Trying to think of one that isn't too drastic a change.. sure there are some Chrsitains who don't believe in parties etc and would stay in having a day of quiet rememberance...

OR you could all govolunteer at a soup kitchen for the day. You'd be together, save money, and do something truly useful

It may just be my naughty streak coming out there, though... Me, I hate christmas, far too much pressure. Might do some volunteering myself this year, round my way you can go do enironmental work in the woods christmas week.

I did Crisis at Xmas in homeless shelter on year ( not Xmas day, but got the 1st train back to london on boxing day for it) it was great to see people grateful for the expense of it all, and thrilled with a lovely meal, games and all the traditional trimmings. Id do it again every year, but the trains dont always run....

GW i feel the same as everyone else regarding the inlaws.
How well do you get on with them ?
What does your hubby think ?
Surely if you explain your financial situation to them they would understand!!
Tell them you want a nice family xmas on your own!!
And if they can't accept it tell em to "sling there hooks!"!!!
OMG that sound's really mean!!! but you can't "carry them" anymore you have your own family to think about!!
The more you pander to there whims the more they will expect!!

Mind you it's easy for me to say cos never did like my MIL!!! :rotfl:
  • Well on the In-laws front, the relationship has become strained, and maybe, i'm only putting the negative points here. Funnily enough I can't remember any positive ones, well apart from FIL giving the children spending money for holidays once.

My MIL has always been a bit awkward, even her children say so. She will take every thing anyone says and twist it. She even told us that BIL only invited her up north to his place to babysit for a week. When in fact She asked to come up one week, he said they're at work, but she's still welcome....

I would prefer to divert this thread away from Christmas (head in the cloud moment)

My boss has said that she is very interested in my car and will talk to me tomorrow. With the money from that I can have £330 'released' each month
    *fingers crossed*

As for the lenses, I'll dig out the boxes and let you know, If you can get then it'd be great.

Off to Uni now, have a nice evening everyone
    :)

    GW,
I think you are doing great just to still be listening and learning from everyone instead of taking your ball indoors !
Keep picking up everyones ideas & its really is going to turn your life around, honestly, even if its really hard to start with.
I'd chat it over with everyone including the kids to make sure you are all moving the same way. I am quite tight with everything as we are saving for a house in Crete (well, some land, maybe a house one day) and they have adapted really well.
Pop over to Old Style for some ideas though, there are amazing too. Blac Saturn can feed the many on next to nothing & Penny Pincher is the world most organised. Defaintely can pick up a load of tips from them.

    Best Wishes
