It's a shame that so many people have had bad experiences with SelectSpecs. I've always had very good luck with them: 5 pairs of glasses plus prescription sunglasses since 2007. The other half has had 3 pairs from them and my brother now buys from them too. One pair did arrive with a flaw on the frame, but after sending a photo of the problem, SelectSpecs sent out a replacement pretty quickly. Despatch times were fine considering the distance they travel and we could track the glasses from being made through to being posted. Bargain! Three happy customers in this family! :j

    Hey Azmataz,

I think you have to bear in mind that most people that have bad experiences will tend to shout about it while those that have had a good experience will continue on without so much as a mention (as a good experience is always expected). From what I can see I can tell that we do not see many customer with complaints these days, the number of customers that are happy far outweigh those that are unhappy and survey results that we have compiled do show that, which is great.

    Dear James
I've mistakenly placed an order (Confirmation Order Number 195013). The method of payment was selected "Pay by Checque", so the order immediately went through. I want to cancel this ASAP as the prescription numbers etc. were all off, I was just trying to see what the cost is going to be.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Don't worry, we won't process an order until payment has been received, you can cancel through your account too. :)

I still think it's a poor show if issues have to be resolved on a public forum - why don't you improve you communications set up, so that customers can contact you, get a straight answer and have their issues resolved without the need for a whole thread on a forum?

I don't see this as a support thread for our business, if a customer needs to contact us to get a quick reply (usually within 24 hours) then they can contact us through our contact system, or if during UK working hours, they can use our live chat service.

Sent my Oakley frames away nearly 6 weeks ago for a reglaze..............

    still no glasses...................

Vision express have made me a pair of prescription Oakley sunglasses in 2 DAYS. I was going to use select specs for my sunglasses but decided as my first order has still not materialised they will not be having any more of my money.

And the only info I have recieved is that there is a 'slight delay':rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hello, This is my first post to MSE and I have signed up initially to add my experiences to this discussion.

I placed my first order with Select Specs on Saturday, 8th October 2011, I have used onlne ordering for specs before (Glasses Direct before they stopped being cheap) so knew not to expect next day delivery on my order.

I placed and order for the super cheapy budget set of frames costing £6 + £4 p&P, (I found this topic AFTER I had placed my order I had visions of everything going FUBAR) I had read on the select specs site that these would be shipped from Hong Kong and from my experience on Ebay I expected the following to happen.

    S L O W delivery time 30+ working days
Lost Item and i would have to get the item re-dispatched
or item to grabbed by customs and charged to get it sent through.

The reality of my order is that I placed it on the 8th, it was shipped on the 14th and delivered through my door on the 25th

For 6 quid the frames were good enough for the backup pair I wanted and were in good working order.

I have tried ordering again but could not find a pair to match the frames that I wanted and to be honest want going to spend ages going through the frames one by one as the Select Specs online chat agent advised.

They could do with a match facility or agents who know the stock a bit better. However if you dont mind having a browse of the site for a backup pair of glasses then i would say go for it.

As for spending serious money on Frames without seeing it first, I dont do it for items on ebay or amazon market place .. so Im not doing it for £100odd glasses.

I know that a lot of people on here have had issues but I wanted to share my experience.

Well this needs sorting out, the loss to your buisness must be substantial with all the negative experiences on various websites. Your time could be put to better use than chasing all of the bad press on the internet!

I wouldn't mind paying more for a faster service, the service I expected. But costs need to be less than the high street to make it viable.

I'm guesing it only takes a few hours to machine the lenses, and a few hours to glaze them to a pair of frames? The rest of the lead time is just que time and delivery time? Perhaps use a different labratory for high definition and complex prescriptions? Just pass the cost on to the customer.

At the very least you need to inform costomers of the long waiting times, not just say there may be a slight delay, which I would class as a few days, not 2 months.

It seems like the helpdesk is rattling through the emails giving false/incorrect information. If the information they gave was accurate I imagine they would have to deal with far fewer emails.

And finally, when will I recive my order? And has it been dispatched this week like the helpdesk said it would? :rotfl:

  • I ordered a pair of glasses on 3rd October and paid by cheque, but even allowing for the time the cheque clears I'm getting sick of waiting.

I chased up the order on 2nd on November and was told they would be in within 2-3 days. After which I needed to allow 2-4 days for glazing.

I then waited and chased it up again on 10th November, my lenses have only JUST arrived on the 11th November.

I've now been advised on the website that the frames are expected to arrive on the 21st November! If I factor in the glazing process that means they might arrive by the end of November,
  • mineymoe,

Unfortunately, our suppliers don't update their information often enough for us to see what items are discontinued, we usually have to contact them to discover this information.

Do not make your problems our problems! If your suppliers are not performing then it is for you ' the client' to resolve the matter with your suppliers.
