Ajmoney's mortgage reduction diary

I hadn't realised it was so long since I had been on here!
Just on update on OHs job. After all the hassle at the end of last term with no jobs, then a temporary contract and finally a 2 and a half day permanent job he was called my 2 different schools last week to work the other 2 days and one is the school he was wanting to work for anyway. He had got to like the idea of working part time but has taken on that school anyway. He is trying it on supply first to make sure he can dedicate the time to his permanent school and then they are going to make it a temporary contract so he gets more benefits from it. We figure it is better that way than sticking with his part time job then wanting to work more and no one giving him a job as he had already said no. He has loved this week so it is a much happier household than last year.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

Just calculated the daily interest for the mortgage and it is down to £3.31. I am quite happy with that, £560ish left in OPs this year. That is the amount I am aiming for but I may have to round up a few numbers to make them pretty :rotfl:MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I started my mortgage diary just over a year ago and have gone from OPs of £60 to £139.76.
Last year's mortgage total £48,601.07 with daily interest of £3.56.
This year's mortgage total £45,211.08 with daily interest of £3.31.
I have paid off £3389.99 which is far more than if I had stayed on the same course.
Over the last year I have had 2 lots of 0%. An account card deal to pay for our kitchen, a 2 year deal which came to an end in July and has all been paid. The 2nd is a 0% interest free deal for a year for double glazing which comes to an end next month. I have just sold some unit trusts which weren't doing that well and that is covering that plus costs for a new driveway that should be getting laid in around a month.
I am hoping to get a new car soon so want all this paid to allow for a loan. It is not a necessity but the car is struggling a bit and if I am getting a new one I want it to before the VAT goes up.
Anyway, enough of the ramblings, in a round about way I am really happy with the OPs I have made, am even more happy with the support from you guys especially when I was working on my Masters. I hope to maybe throw some more money at the mortgage depending on what size loan I get. I get a pay rise in 2 days so that may helpMFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

Hello stranger. So pleased things are going well for you! Have you had the nod that you've passed your masters now? And has DH settled into his new job?

Ooops, I really haven't come on here in a long time then, sorry
Yes I passed my Masters. I got 65 for my dissertation and 68 for my performance so got a merit overall which I am happy with. I graduated mid July and am really enjoying not studying at the mo. I am really busy at work at the moment though so it is just as well.
OH finished his probation year and is a fully qualified teacher now. He ended up getting 2 jobs, a 2 and a half day permanent job in a Catholic school and 2 days in the school he wanted to work at, it is supply at the mo and will be made temporary after 8 weeks. I am glad he is only there on a temporary basis. After all the vibes that they wanted him they aren't treating him with much respect, especially when they don't inform him during the week that things will be changing when he arrives with them for the end of the week, timetable changes are a very good example. He is looking into things at the moment and may be getting in touch with the union. He has a mixed bag of classes but most are just 1st and 2nd years and a couple of certificate classes. He has a wayward class but we are trying to find ways of engaging them in the lesson and it worked last week, early days though so we shall see.
I forgot to post on your diary, well done for the grades your guys got. I can't remember the grades that came from the probation school but they weren't brilliant. Don't know if you know the curriculum up here but instead of GCSE's it is Standard grades but for the less gifted they can opt for intermediate 1 or 2 levels. OH thought it would have been better to put some in for the lower certificates to give them a chance of obtaining something but other members of the department were more bothered about the numbers of people opting for standard grade so it would look better for the school. I know they are governed by some of this but surely the kids and their abilities should come first or am I completely wrong?
Anyway rant over. I have just come back from the gym and need to get on with some house cleaning. I have invited a friend over for lunch tomorrow. The house is definately not presentable and I have no idea what to give her either!MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

Yeah we all have the same arguements about these things...but hey, stats are stats at the end of the day. Schools are businesses, it's something a lot of people don't realise it....I know I didn't until I got into teaching.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

Well done on your Op's and look at the difference they have made!
Good news about the payrise..have you spent the money already? I normally have something in mind for it before I even get.
Theres so many teachers on here ..I feel the odd one out..:o:)I can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -
Iris Blue I am not a teacher, my OH is but the amount I help him out with some of his lesson plans is getting me used to some of the ways of teaching etc. I don't have any plans for the payrise yet, although it may go towards loan payments on a car. Although my job is one of the most secure it is an uncertain future for us over the next few months so I am quite happy sitting on the money for a bit until we know what is happening.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200
