Apparently I backed into someone in car park...

You should have stopped. The fact that you didn't means that you pretty much have no defence against any claim the driver of the other car makes against you, and you have the added chance of being charged with a "hit and run".

You are going to get little sympathy on any forum if you hit a car, are covered on cctv and then ask if you can legally wriggle out of it, playing the lone female or otherwise. Sorry but it happens too much and everyone hates coming back and finding their car damaged.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
if i were you, i would report this to the police immediately. under the RTA if you have damaged a vehicle or property you must provide the third party with your details and insurers, or report to the police within 24 hours. you doubt it but don't know if you did.
the fact that you saw him shouting and drove off is not good, you have done yourself no favours
if you dont report this, the next you hear will be the police asking you to attend interview, or if the CCTV is enough evidence a summons for failing to stop at an accident (backed up by the CCTV footage) PLUS the insurance claim.
i can understand that you dont want to have a claim on your record BUT if you want to dispute the claim, do it the correct way through the insurance companies. report the incident to your insurers and inform them what you have told us. the alternatives (police involvement) seem much more stressful.0 -
You "apparently" collided with someone and you don't know for sure?
Consider carefully your ability to drive safely before getting behind the wheel again."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Somewhere between the 2 lies the truth. No-one on here *knows* for sure which it is but you driving off then trying to avoid being identified doesn't exactly help your case. As others have said, if the car park is classed as a road and the police are involved they will want to know why you failed to stop and failed to report a damage only RTA. If they are not involved you are still required to inform your insurers of any incident likely to give rise to a claim. Have you contacted either?0 -
From your post, when you left car park you didn't think you had hit anything. All you saw was a bloke shouting and using the car horn. Now correct if I am wrong but that is a pretty typical response of a male chauvinst pig who thinks you got too near his pride and joy( remember men think women can't drive). I don't blame you for driving off and, as fars as you are concerned, nothing happened so you don't have to report anything.
As for the CCTV you are getting 3rd party opinions and the best they can say is 'looks' like you hit him (was the bloke standing over their shoulder giving a running commentary?). Look at it for yourself. Also as said before, is it possible you dented the bonnet? What kind of vehicle do you drive? It has to be a high vehicle to dent a bonnet as normally the 1st point of contact is the bumper ( it's in the name). Also have a look on your vehicle to see if their is any of the other cars paint.
The Nursery can't give out your details full stop. Now I wonder why he didn't leave his details with them?
Once you've looked at the CCTV I would give the police a ring and have a chat with them about it.
P.S. I am one of those people who've have had their car damaged in a car park (once badly) so am not biased!0 -

What??????
Lets get this straight, the OP was outside a childrens nursery, are you really telling me you think the other guy just 'happened' to decide that that dent he had on the bonnet could be blamed on the OP????
Do you or the OP really think that they were at risk outside a childrens nursery from another parent????
The OP should have stopped at the time and from their post & attitude are now trying to slither out of having to step up to their responsibilities??
And also, is some poor bloke who (very potentially) has had several hundred pounds worth of damage done to his car in front of his eyes suddenly a 'male chauvenist pig???0 -

As I drove off he was beeping the horn and shouting. I drove off because I wasn't aware I had touched him, AND because he was shouting and I was scared and had my 2yo in car at time.
At the time I was reversing out of a space. Because he was stopped at the time and I had to swing round and back up some more to get car out of the exit to the car park I didnt think he would at that point move into the space. I was going extremely slowly but would still be surprised if I touched him at all.
Of course he must have taken number plate and spoken to nursery staff (it was my son's nursery). Now says dent on bonnet. No marks at all on mine.
They have video they haven't shown me but say it looks like we touched. - But I am not sure this is necessarily true - obviously it might look like that.
Nursery staff want to give him my contact details. I am thinking I will refuse to let them and will say he can contact the police if he wants.
In my opinion there was nothing to it. He has seen a dent in his bonnet he wants to blame on me and wants me to say I will give cash for it instead of going through insurance.
Can I ask nursery to not give my details?
Seriously?
Do you really think this guy has been driving about with a dent on his bonnet, hoping that someone 'nearly' touches his car so he can blame them?
Did you really think you or your son would be at risk by stopping and seeing if any damage was done at the time?
Do you really think the nursery staff are lying by saying it looks like you hit his car?
I would have thought that your vehicle must be a fairly unique shape to have damaged his bonnet, therefore if you totally 'believe' that you didnt hit him or couldnt have done the damage then aligning your car with his would prove you right??
Imagine if some bloke had done that on you - i'd say you'd have been on here about your rights and how typical this was of men!0
