Hi Guys.
First poster here
Just after a bit of advice really. I graduated 4 years ago, and have just gone back to uni to do a 1 year masters, and I was looking into getting a student/graduate account. Unfortunately, it seems like most banks want you to have graduated in the last 3 years fr the graduate account, and a 1 year masters course doesn't qualify for the student accounts. Does anyone have any ideas of any banks that might be willing to give me one? I have enquired at the Lloyds and Natwest branches on campus, and both said no basically. I never had a student overdraft when I was studying, and didnt see the need for a graduate account afterwards as I was working and had no overdraft to clear, but I feel one would be appropriate now, especially whilst I am waiting for my PCDL to come through (long story!)
Thanks guys (and gals)0 -
That's weird. I got a NatWest Student Account a couple of months ago just before beginning my one-year Masters course.
Perhaps check out the T&Cs in the Student brochure? It does say that those on 1-year postgraduate courses are eligible - perhaps try a different branch or show the staff the T&Cs?Sealed Pot Challenge Number 1225

Thank you. I applied online with Natwest, and they have sent me some stuff out to fill in and send back. It's not a guaranteed yes, but its a lot more positive than in branch0

I've had trouble with Halifax this year, as unlike some other banks, they're not helping students out with the Student Finance UK problem. In actual fact, they've decided that as I don't have confirmation of my loan yet this year, and have in the past incurred charges, they're closing my overdraft and asking me for £2600. When I complained, they just tried to put me through to their debt consolidation department. Eep.
They have a great Student account, but they don't actually seem to be very understanding towards the students that use them.0 -
I am quite annoyed by lloyds tsb who only offer the perks for the first year!LuV_oR_h8_Me0

I think that would be ok (ask uni to advice?) but would not join up with Halifax. I have excellent credit, banked there for years and still can't get full overdraft. Looking at thread I'm not alone!0

interested to read "grumpydad"'s comments - wish I'd thought of that name. My son applied online for Natwest account - much to-and-fro-ing ; eventually account opened, with £500 overdraft facility, but no railcard or memory stick, as he'd missed the cut-off date buried in the small print. As these were the main reasons for taking out a Natwest account, there is nothing in it at the moment - any suggestions as to any possible redress?0

Well, I've had my account with lloyds since i was 16. When i went to uni at 18 they made it into a student account, and then a graduate one after i left, never had any problems.
Now i'm a student again, i asked if they'd change the account again. they said nooo! but we'll open you a new account. So now i have two accounts with them. which is a pain as all my payments etc go in/out of my normal account.
So my plan is to open a bank account with a new bank and get them to do all the changing over for me. Halifax have rejected me... no idea why, my credit is ace, i even just did an experion check. I asked them, they don't know.
So i might try Barclays now, although they were mean to my friend so i might not_____________________________________________
