  • they never check i have 3, one with barclays, 1 with natwest and 1 with llyods, i took out 3 to enjoy the perks!
  • yes but how is that possible.

how didnt you fail your credit rating???
  • Has anyone noticed that on the Lloyd's TSB, Cooperative and HSBC website it states that they require you not to have another student account (after doing a bit of searching around). However in the guide it says that they do NOT require it. Which one do you think is right? Do you think they check? Thanks in advance.
  • The guide seems to suggest that apart from NatWest and RBS the other banks don't mind you having more than 1 student account, and that NatWest and RBS don't mind as long as theirs is the main account.

With this in mind would it be possible for someone with an existing NatWest student account to set up a second student account with overdraft with, for example, Barclays?

    hi

i also wanted to open a couple of student accounts i felt if all the grants/loans/work ect money goes into one bank account it would be alot harder for me to control my spending.

i have just upgraded my rbs account into a student account- when they refer to main account, they mean the account must have at least one credit transaction every 3 months, and at least 3 debit transactions per month during term time, and i believe this is the same for the natwest account.
"if you wake up at a different time in a different place- could you be a different person?"
  • I'm going with Santander as it's 5% interest rate when in credit.

i have too because of the 5% interest rate (royal holloway uni)!
the only thing is that this interest rate applies for balances under £500, and therefore this is going to be my 'food' account-... to help me out during uni, my family will make regular deposits so then i can spend in shops ect so i can earn interest on that

the only thing is, that to qualify for the £50 cash gift you need to deposit £500 in the first month i think? so if need be i will have to make some withdrawals to make sure my balance isnt above £500 otherwise the interest falls to 0.2% i think

I already have a account with Lloyds which i'll upgrade to a student account soon. I would have liked to have gone with Natwest too, which i'll go in branch to ask about.

If you tell them that you will use another account more or have that as a student account they may well reject you.

Well my daughter has an appt to open an RBS account, as she hates the Halifax at the moment.I checked online and it seems that the conditions are that there must be one deposit in the first 3 months and 3 withdrawals a month.

This could work if you have a part time job, cos it doesn't say it has to be your student award money:p.

So you could have two student accounts if you have two sources of income.:T:T
    Debts :Paypal £1981.32
    Monzo Loan £4278.16
    Virgin CC £2137 0% until Dec 23
    HSBC £5471.01 0% until Feb 2025
    Emergency pot £404.47/2500
    1p Savings Challenge £1.45/660
    52 week Savings: £22.00/1400

  • My daughter applied for a Nat West Student account online to get the advertised freebies and was allowed a £500 overdraft facilty. A week later some paperwork arrived asking for two proofs of ID to be sent or taken into the nearest branch. She took these to a branch and asked how long before she gets an account number from the online guys and was told 10 days. This was going to be too long due to term starting at the same time so the branch adviser said apply again in the branch and they could give an account number immediately. Why is that possible then? The same form was filled in online in the branch but when it came to credit card option my daughter said she did not want one but the adviser said it was free so have it anyway and coerced her into signing the forms. The adviser then forgot to arrange the online banking option needed to get the student railcard offer, so my daughter now has to do this retrospectively and I'm not convinced it will be that staightforward. She is also missing out on a memory stick which was offered for opening an account online. So instead of feeling chuffed about opening her first bank account she now feels slightly conned by the glossy brochure offers which she has not got. I called the branch to complain about the way the credit card option was sold to her and was advised that the manager would get back to me. He didn't but another adviser called my daughter and told her that she obviously didn't understand what a credit card was (how patronising is that). She said she thought it was a way of spending money that you didn't have and then if you coulnt pay it back you were charged a high interest rate for the money spent and that was why she did not want one, so that she would not be tempted to use it. He said to her that many students kept it for emergencies and for internet use and that if she didn't want it she could just cut it up. Funny how Nat West cannot understand the word NO when they ask a question.

Gobsmacked by how patronising the advisor was and more than a little disturbed by their sales technique with young people who are easily swayed by dodgy advice. My verdict....... shabby, not good enough, target chasing! Whatever it is, it's not a great advertisment for Nat West.
