They're salesman, take a guess what they aim to do.....
Your daughter could have easily stood up for herself and said no. Shes about to live on her own, although she will need some help along the way she has to think about these things.
Natwest are doing it with all their student accounts, trying to give them credit cards, as its an easy way for them to make money, especially off the female gender... ha.
Just cut up the card and cancel it.
As for opening the account, this is her first account? It takes time especially if she hasn't had one before and maybe isn't on electoral roll? They have to do identity checks regorously nowadays because of fraud and such. It took 2 weeks to open my Egg account when I was 16 because of I.D. purposes.0 -

Yes, my daughter did say No, several times in fact and they just ignored that, and its easy to open an account immediately in a branch. So if the branch have seen the id why is that not good enough for the online department of the same bank to be able to get an account number out immediately as well.0 -
Hi I was wondering if anyone could help.
Im a student soon to be going into my fourth and final year in the next 2 weeks.. I have a student bank accoiunt with HSBC, and only have an overdraft of £800.
I have asked for an increase twice and been denied since, due to my failed credit point scoring system.. UI have gone overdrawn a couple of times but this has only been by £1 or something.
How do I go about changing my student account? As I am already £800 in debt and due to start final year.. I will need more money! I do have a job and dont use it just for partying etc...
Thanks!! Laura x0 -

What do you mean you want to change it? To another bank?0 -
I tried HSBC fist and had a complete nightmare.
- Applied for a student account online (after being told to do so by the branch), got the confirmation letter stating it was done as a student account but when I went into branch I found out it was mucked up and I was only given a prestudent account.
- I declined the credit card on the application. When I went into branch they said it had been assessed and approved.
- Updated it in branch to what it should have been, a student account, was told to call to add the overdraft.
- Called and was refused an overdraft, was told I had to wait 6-9 months and use the account to be able to be assessed for any overdraft.
- Had a perfect credit rating, checked Experian and found three credit checks, two of which I'd never authorised, been told about or knew about.
- Three months later they've only JUST been removed after waiting weeks and weeks for replies to my emails and letters.
- They failed to resolve the query within 8 weeks. I said ''either give me compensation or pay the Ombudsman a £400 fine.''
- Settled on £100 compensation and the promise that they'd remove the checks, since they couldn't provide me with the account or overdraft I was promised in branch.
Went to my own bank, who I've been with for seven years, Halifax and got the account upgraded within 24 hours. No application, no credit check, same account and sort code, same overdraft of £1,250 converted to interest free. Should have went to them first since I have a good history with them.0 -
I have an HSBC student account and have (without asking/requesting) had my overdraft upped from £750 in my first year last year, to £1500 this year! I have however had the account for years, which may have helped my cause.0

does anyone know where I can get a decent student loan for a 1 year course. Doing a Foundation Degree before going on next year and there doesn't seem to be anywhere to get any help. Any ideas?0

Thought I'd add my experiences here:
Currently have a Natwest Student Account.
Applied for HBOS, Smile, Co-op, Abbey, RBS, Lloyds, Barclays, HSBC.
RBS and HSBC set me up with no problems at all. I am in the process of setting up an account with Smile and Co-op. Smile have provisionally accepted. Halifax (HBOS) rejected me outright as did Abbey. Barclays said I couldn't have more than 1 account though I will go into a different branch and try my luck. Lloyds have asked me to go into the branch with ID.0
