Do you/would you tell dog owners to pick 'it' up?

  • I do ask people, tending to use the 'oh, have you run out of bags, here - I have one spare... you don't want a £50 fine!'

Also, please don't assume people have always ignored the dog pooping on purpose, or have not really forgotten a bag - I had once used my last bag when the dog decided to poop on the pavement just before we got back home - I was just wondering what to do when the woman living in the house opened the window and shouted 'Oi! I hope you are not leaving that there!!' - I said 'no, but I do have a bit of a problem..' and explained - she came out and gave me a bag - job sorted!

A while ago my mum was laying on a park bench looking at a cloud (not unusual behaviour for my mum!) when her dog pooped in a flower bed... she had no idea till a passer-by asked her if she was planning on cleaning up after the dog!:rotfl:

My dog was in the middle of its business on a grass area outside some houses. An old lady camed out and said ' Make sure you pick that up'! I quite clearly had a green dog bag in my hand at the time.
What do folk want, for me to stand waving the flipping thing above my head? I could even shout 'Hey, look everyone I'm going to pick my dog's mess up now'! :wall:

lmao! Some of these have gave me a real giggle! We've got two jack russells and even our kids take turns at picking up their mess, so i wouldn't hesitate in offering someone a bag if they walked off, in a loud voice, usually does the trick!
:Sometime I try to be NORMAL. . . But it gets boring so I go back to being me. . .

No one has ever asked me if I'm going to pick up my dogs' mess, I think it might be one of the up sides of having a Rottweiler and a Mastiff.

There are a couple of dog walkers in my park who have mobility issues severe enough not to be able to pick up their dog's mess, I convince myself that all of the ones on the path must belong to those dogs.

Thats not really an excuse. There are aids for people with disability problems to clean up after their dogs. They should use them or take someone with them who can clean up after their dog. My employer has fined a disabled person for not cleaning up after their dog and refused to accept that excuse (it had been happening for two years on a playground).

I would suggest that you report anyone you see (where you know where they live) to the local council. Local council's also have a right to trace car registrations for this offence so its worth reporting it even if you just have their car reg.

I live next to a footpath and regularly pick up bags of dog mess which people leave to pick up later on their way back (but never do). I know where one guy lives and am 90% sure he is doing it and if I ever witness him leaving the dog muck I will be returning it to him via his doorstep.

The ironic thing is that the worst offenders are people over 50 because I suspect they never had to clean up after their dog and don't see why they should start now.

I have never had anyone shout at me to clean up after my dog although I walk her next to some very posh houses and I always get watched from windows as my dog goes to toilet.

Really I can not think of one single reason why anyone should not be fined for not cleaning up after their dog. Its a dog owners obligation to make sure they have tissues, bags and whatever else they need to clean up after their dog. Although I will admit I have had to leave it once when I forgot a bag and had nothing else on me. Had I been fined I would have accepted it on the chin.

I do offer bags to people who have not picked up, I always have millions of bags on me or in the car etc.
Our council gives dog poo bags for free so there really is no excuse.
I saw a girl with her dog one day and she was standing looking embarrassed as her dog had a poo, I said "do you need a bag?" and she said she did as her dog never had 2 poos on a walk, and today she did and had just one bag!
sometimes people make mistakes, its the ones that are about 6 feet away from the poo bins that really pee me off!
I'm disabled and still pick up after my 2 mastiffs, so I find it pretty much inexcusable not to pick up TBH.

Its really annoying when you get those comments when its so obvious your gonna clean up, wonder if they say this to 7ft blokes with rotties doing giant turds on the grass, or do they just pick on us littlies :rotfl:

I must put my two penn'orth in... ciagarette ends v. dog poo

I'm a rabid anti smoker. My mother was also obsessive about me not treading poo into the house, and as a result I walk around looking down. Friends have to call my name when they walk past me, otherwise I won't know they're there.

But fag butts aren't sticky and are not that likely to get stuck to your shoe (unless maybe they're stuck in a patch of gum, yet another pavement evil)
They don't get smeared over the pavement when someone treads in one
They're smaller than poo and much easier to avoid
They contain significantly less bacteria than a poo
Ok, they smell, but just up close. You get poo on your shoe and the whole room can smell it.

I just don't get how a fag end is worse than a poo!
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Maybe the point is that people think its acceptable to throw fag ends down. Nearly all smokers regularly are quite happy to throw their fag end on the ground in front of people with no shame or embrassment. But few dog owners would not clear up after their dog if there was witnesses. Maybe this is why its worse? Its very rare to see dog dirt on a pavement in most areas but you can see fag ends everywhere you go.
The ironic thing is that dog fouling is far worse than littering but in most places the fine is lower?!

Here's one, if you're blind. Blind people legally do not have to pick up after their Dog & couldn't be expected to either
