  • Vista remains riddled with holes, despite its multilayer security architecture and embedded security tools. Besides providing no improvement in virus protection vs. XP, Vista brings little or no security gains over its predecessor

I think people underestimate the latest tranche of Atom Netbooks. I have had Windows 7 running in a Dell Mini 10v.

I was pretty peeved when I saw an interactive POS in comet which suggested that that Netbooks could not run productivity suites like MS Office.

My GF quite happy runs, her Dell 10v with Openoffice. (previously MS Office until I grew a conscience).

In fact it's blisteringly fast with 1GB Ram on XP.

I would have bought one of these based on the reviews. Glad I noticed the post.

  • Caveat emptor will always be your friend.

Argos must have thought I had a case as they sent me a cheque for £59 to by another battery for the 3-cell NC10 I had bought from them.

Well done TonyStrud ! Just shows, persistance pays off :j

The NC10 is a great machine (and yes, I do have one), and when you have the 6-cell battery it is even better.

But retailers should be clear in what they are selling, and not rely on consumer ignorance to sell lower spec machines that people expect.

2 of the main selling points for the NC10 were the keyboard size and battery life. If someone has picked up on that, but then bought a 3-cell without realising, that is then misleading.

Just another retailer trick to sell more items, for more money for less value.

PS - don't buy things like mains leads, network / USB / other cables from the big retailers. They charge 10 or 20 times the price you can pay elswhere, for exactly the same thing. FACT.

I bought a 15" dell laptop for my sister from the dell site last week, interestingly it came with a 4-cell 26 W/HR battery as standard but you could opt for the 6 cell 48W/HR for an extra fiver. I guess less technical types might skip thru the customisation screens and miss that :/

I would say thet is a good deal, to get the better battery for £5 more. Hope you took the upgrade !!
  • I've had mine for two years now, and it's always worked fine. The battery still lasts 7 hours today, it always has.
    I guess I've been lucky?
Ahh, just checked the battery type and I do have a 6 cell.
I can't believe shops would do that...it'd be useless with less battery life, I use it all the time.
    Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:

There was an element to this that the consumer always wants a product for less cash. The battery differences are just one way of the retailers doing this for you.
If the item is clearly marker as 4hours rather than 7hours and you've done research and they all said 7hours in the reviews, obviously you question why. If you don't then more fool you.
If something looks to good to be true then it isn't. (unless your an MSE addict and find all the quirks and glithces :))
