Hairdressing costs

Yes, how I marvelled at someone saying that £35 was a good price for a haircut!!!!
I'm in London quite a bit for work and know a really good salon with a junior stylist, £15 for a cut and blow dry and she is great.
Here in Belfast, I usually pay about the same (I would never pay more than £20 for a cut and blow dry - in my pre-MSE days when I didn't really save much I would have thought nothing of paying £40 to T&G but not any more!), but I have just come across a good salon near me offering FREE trainee haircuts so I am going to give them a ring today!!!!
As for colour, I am lucky enough to have naturally blonde hair so I have never coloured it in my life.
Very moneysaving!! Thanks Mother Nature! :money: :rotfl: Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Do you have short hair or is this barber particularly skilled at cutting long hair?Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Can I ask, do you live in an area with a large Afro-Caribbean community where there's loads of competition in the market? Or is it that there's only one place near you that can do it, so they can basically charge what they like?Hairdresser is daylight robbery here. I have afro hair that I can't trust to just anybody and have extensions so the costs do add up but my deep condition, steam, colour, wash, cut and blow is about £150. They do have offers on all the time and I normally get a weekly wash and blow (not mse but it takes me about 2.5 hours to do it myself they have me in an out in an hour and it looks good). That costs about £20.
The world of afro hairdressing is a complete mystery to me, and I'm nosy

I go to a local independent salon and I pay £35 for cut and blow dry and to have my roots re-done.I sometimes have foils,in 2 or 3 different shades and that is another £8.
My hairdresser is excellent, she will suggest different styles and colours that would suit me and she custom-mixes different colours to get exactly the right shade for me,I am always changing my colour
I love the whole experience of a visit to the hairdresser,I get to relax with all the latest glossy magazines, which I never buy myself and a complimentary coffee and biscuits too.0 -

I live in Manchester and there are a few Afro Carribean places dotted about but and its a big but - most of them are rubbish. My friend calls them ghetto establishments and its true. Although you will have an appointment at 10am its not unusual to arrive and find out the stylist hasn't even dragged her lazy self out of bed - when she does arrive at about half eleven there are three people waiting for her. She then looks down the line, recognises her old friend and despite the fact that you were there first and her friend strolled in five minutes ago, immediately sits her cronie in the chair and starts gossipsing loudly about what dance she went to last night.
Then at 2pm bearing in mind your appointment was at ten, you finally get to the chair and the stylist takes it upon herself to order lunch. Lunch arrives and the cheeky heifer starts to eat it while doing your hair!!! So instead of the fresh smelling blowing in the wind hair you want, you now smell like KFC.
When lunch is finished the stylist will then start telling you how "bad" your hair is and how you need to relax (chemically straighten it) with super strength chemicals that cause third degree burns. They then attempt to rake through your afro with a fine tooth comb, blow dry with a super hot fire breathing blowdryer and burn the tops of your ears with straighteners.
It may sound like an exaggeration but this has really happened. Because I'm slightly vain and my hair is my crowning glory I just don't want to risk being maimed or looking like a ghetto girl with a gelled up elaborate rainbow coloured hair do. Therefore I pay a bit more and go to the professionals in the city centre - they have been trained in afro hair, won international awards and do a really good job. There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -
Where are you all finding these cheap salons in London?!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

A trim is a trim no matter what length your hair is.
A trim is taken to mean a centimetre or two off the ends
And my hair was past my shoulders heading towards my bra strap so pretty long Id say
And I couldnt have known if he had a talent or not, it was an area of london I had never been before in my life and I didnt know him from adam. Shop was empty bar him and his friend chatting so in I walked0 -
I go to the college in Birmingham it costs £6 for a cut and blow dry, I have never had a problem yet in 2 years. In fact the last cut I had in June is the best I have ever had anywhere. They are closed from the middle of June until September so that causes me problems sometimes.0

I got fed up of not really knowing how much I would end up paying at my hairdressers. She never had prices displayed and seem to just charge anything between £50 and £70 for cut and highlights depending on how the wind was blowing. The final straw was when she had a trainee do my highlights (it took forever!!!) and then charged me more than she did the time before!
I now - horror of horrors - do my own bleaching! (Went to youtube to find out and did a bit of a google). I am growing my hair so I just trim the ends myself. I love being in control and having a play with different toners, and haven't had any bleaching disasters. (Yet !)
Are you bleaching dark hair blonde?0
