I have a mobile hairdresser. She charges £10 for a cut (no blow dry) and £25 for a cut and full foil highlights.

I live in a city and used to pay £30 just for a cut

  • I go to a local salon on the estate where I live and pay £20 for cut and blow dry. Town centre is about £30-£35 I think.

  • My last haircut was at one of the salons in the small town where my parents live and cost £28. Considering that my 'normal' hairdresser in the nearest big town was £36 I think that's not a bad saving.

I normally go every eight weeks and have a free fringe trim every four weeks, so I don't think £3.50 a week for a haircut is that bad.

I'm intrigued to know where Bargain Rzl goes though as I'm moving to London soon and am looking for a hairdresser...

I pay £70 for a cut, highlights and a finish. I used to pay £50 but was unhappy with the service, and have paid £100 with Toni and Guy and still wasn't happy!

I don't mind paying a little bit more as I love my hairdresser and the salon is a local business. I also really like the 'experience' of going to the hairdressers - reading the glossy mags, having a head massage when my hair's being washing, getting to use all the fancy products, letting the colour specialist tell me what's best for my skin tone... I don't think you get all that at smaller, less expensive salons.

Oh, and I used to go twice a year when I had long hair, but since having it all lopped off I go every 8 weeks for a cut, three times a year for highlights (I'm naturally very fair and only have them to brighten my colour, you can't see the re-growth) and have free fringe trims when I need them.

    £10

I get mine done by trainees. Normally it would cost about £40!

I got fed up of not really knowing how much I would end up paying at my hairdressers. She never had prices displayed and seem to just charge anything between £50 and £70 for cut and highlights depending on how the wind was blowing. The final straw was when she had a trainee do my highlights (it took forever!!!) and then charged me more than she did the time before!

I now - horror of horrors - do my own bleaching! (Went to youtube to find out and did a bit of a google). I am growing my hair so I just trim the ends myself. I love being in control and having a play with different toners, and haven't had any bleaching disasters. (Yet !)
  • Last cut and dry cost £20.00, which was excellent (I have v short hair), but the place I go to is very disorganised, and appointments over run horribly, BUT the cut is fab. I have tried more expensive places (Saks, Elite) where they charge £40.00+ and don't cut it as well.

I just try and make sure I get 1st appointment of the day.

My hairdresser knew my very genuine (skint) circumstances, and guessed I was worried about the cost (she is lovely!:D). She offered to do my highlights with the spatula instead of foils - she said much less time consuming and apparently it uses less hair dye. I have to say I am very very pleased with the results, I much prefer it done with the spatula and she seems to get my highlights right to the very roots (better than foils). She still does 3 colours and I am absolutely thrilled with the result AND her kindness:jI feel very lucky!
