Nickyboy, I agree people should do their research first. I was only making the distinction between "download" amounts and "usage" amounts.

Aside from that, my usage last month was 6Gb exactly. But I have been invoiced for 2 lots of 1Gb extra usage. I would have thought that if I used 5Gb exactly, I would have incurred no further charge and the so, logically using one Gb more would have brought me to 6Gb.

I have telephoned to explain this, but they have to look into this and let me know.

    Welcome to the forums.

If your usage was exactly 6GB, that would mean that MAAF start to charge for any usage over 4GB. I guess that their response will be that it was just over 6GB, thus triggering the second GB charge!

Keep us informed of the outcome.

The system probably starts to count the extra GB as soon as you hit 5.0GB, 6.0GB etc. One byte over is still over - unlucky.

Well I was informed that the 1Gb over 5Gb goes up to 5.99Gb. So 6.0Gb counts as part of another Gb, so I was charged for 2 additional Gbs. As such I was told that I would have to pay for 2Gb usage.

Luckily, Samara was on the case and common sense prevailed. She was kind enough to arrange for me to get a refund that will be applicable next month.

So thanks Samara for your help.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

Sounds like sharp practise to me, which is how they make their money on this package. A charge of £2 per GB or part of is unjustified, unlike the title of this thread!

I presume it's an automated charge so there is very little that they can do untill you get in touch with them - fair play to them for refunding it.

    worto.

    worto.

This automated charge should be corrected because 1GB = 1000MB not 0.99GB or 990MB.

Other ISP's charge per extra MB used and do not round up to the nearest GB!

Customers should not have to ring customer services or send e-mails to argue for a refund that should not have been charged in the first place.

It's not just that. £2/gig is up to double of most other ISPs.

My ISP charges £2.70 for an extra 3 GB and the surplus rolls over into following months. That's what it says anyway, and I'll find out in a week or two as I've just gone about 20 MB over so far
  • Hi Guys,

This is all good information to take on board.

I would like to point out that the £2.70 per extra 3GB is with Pipex…now whilst this may look like a good deal at first glance….

Pipex is £14.99 a month for a 1GB package. Extra usage is charged at £2.70 per 3 GB additional usage

Madasafish averages to £13.99 a month for a 5GB package (CHEAPER promotion). Extra usage is charged at £2 per GB exceeded.

    If you hit 5GB on Pipex’s deal, you would have spent: £14.99 + (2*2.70) = £20.39

If you hit 5GB on Madasafish’s deal you would have spent the equivalent of £13.99 for that month (£10.99*6) + (£16.99*6)/12

In all fairness, I’m not certain if Pipex will charge you for 2 blocks of 3GB if you accrue an additional 4GB of usage in a month – this isn’t made clear on their website, I hope Redux will let us know when the bill is received.

    Kind regards,
    Samara
