Sounds delicious! I think the leek will be fine. For another time Dave - Cox's apples are good to cook with.

Let us know how you got on....

Well it's in and cooking. I took off a load of fat to make crackling with as well. I seared the pork first in a hot frying can, then quickly fried off the leek and onion. Placed sliced apple in first, the leek and onion, then the pork. added a good glug of cider. (any guess what happened to the rest of the bottle)? then sprinkled some brown sugar over, and some dried rosemary. It's on low and will be serving it with mash in about 8 hours!

    :)

    Hi all,

I am struggling for some ideas for pork shoulder in the slow cooker and I need to get it in quick. I have found a recipe for chinese slow-cooked pork shoulder but i haven't any five spice. Is there an alternative that anyone has used successfully?

Either that or has anyone got any fab recipes? I cooked up some stock last night so would like to use that if poss but I can't find any recipes suitable for batch cooking.

    Thanks

    Hi there

Above is what I'm doing today with some of my pork. I bought a huge joint on sale for a fiver, whacked it in the freezer and forgot about it. Imagine my glee to find it last night.

I've made this pulled pork about 6 times. I love, love, love it. Don't be afraid of the amount of paprkika like I was:o. I also put loads of onions in because they're fab too.

I serve on rolls with salad and coleslaw. HUGE hit in this house.

  • Hey guys,

I cooked a pork leg in the slow cooker yesterday, had it in with some water and potatoes in the bottom, (water was still there when I took it out) but the pork itself was really dry! Does anyone have any ideas on what I did wrong, or how I can salvage the dry meat please?!

    Thanks in advance :)
  • Hi there,

I have found that when I cooked it with quite a lot of water it came out lovely and moist, and when I cooked it with not so much, it was a bit dry, so perhaps try with more water next time?

Re: Salvaging the dry meat... could store it in gravy, use it in soup (perhaps a nice chinese style recipe), or marinade it in something before using it in a recipe (like sweet and sour sauce or something).

    HTH,

    Cait
  • Hey, thanks for that, I only put in enough water to cover the potatoes so perhaps I'll try almost covering the meat next time :). Thanks again.
