Pork Joint In Slow Cooker

  • We use pork quite often - pork mince makes great bolognaise and I tend to put veg in as well, so that 500 g of pork mince will feed the 4 of us for 2 days (I love day 2 when I don't have to cook!!).

We also like pork chops cooked in the oven with onion and apple, sometimes a little cheese on top.

My kids love chick peas, so we quite often make a pork and chick pea stew, it's especially nice with a small amount of chopped chorizo in it. We also often make chicken stock and freeze it when we've had a roast, so if I have some of that in stock (ha ha) I put that in the pork & chick pea stew (use diced pork).

Also child friendly (in our house anyway!) is roast gammon - nice with new potatoes or a few roast, and served with green beans and leek. My husband sometimes makes a sauce for this, I'm not sure of the ingredients but I think he uses the natural juices and adds some marmalade!! :)
  • Just remembered - sometimes we use butter beans instead of chick peas - that's nice too!

If you don't mind making the extra effort then this is my favourite way of cooking pork. Get nice thick boneless loin chops and half way down the side cut a pocket. Stuff with cheese and sew up with thick black cotton (so it's easy to find again!). Dip in egg and then breadcrumbs and then fry. Once they are nicely cooked through serve with your favourite veg - but remember to pull out the black cotton first! They are absolutely delicious and well worth the making.

    :DI love pork too!

My favourite is pork in breadcrumbs.

    Just salt + peper
put it in the plain flour then egg and then breadcrumbs (from ordinary toast bread) and fry it until golden!
    Best in sunflower oil.
    Potatoes + mayonnaise + ghergins :T

Hey, I have a 2.5 kg boneless pork shoulder joint. I want to do it in my slow cooker. I don;t really have time for a lot of prep and just want to get it started. I am happy to nip to my local Tesco to get a few ingredients if needed. Does anyone have any ideas? I like the idea of doing it in cider or apple juice but am not really sure about that. I mean, how about if I just season the pork, place it in slow cooker and pour in about half a pint of cider?

What I would do is cut up an apple or two, and an onion, and make a 'bed' in the SL crock pot. Sit your pork on top and pour on half a pint of cider or apple juice. You don't need any more as the pork if it has fat on will melt down and sort of baste itself.

Depending on the size it will take about 6 - 8 hours on low (as in, I put it in when I go to work and it's cooked when I get home!!)

If you like crispy crackling however, cut some of it off and roast it in the oven.

I love slow roast pork with leeks and rosemary :)

    Hi Kitty!

Do you think any kind of apple will be ok? I know that my local Tesco Express does not sell cooking apples, so it will probably juts be a regular Golden Delicious?

Can you tell me more about the leeks and rosemary? I love leeks!

I use any old apples, usually golden delicious from Lidl :D

I sprinkle rosemary over the pork, usually before I go out and it makes the gravy taste lovely (thicken it up after you have taken out the pork).

I usually just fry up two leeks in butter and then mix them into mash (and a bit of cheese if you are feeling really decadent!!) Or you can just serve four leeks as a side with no mash.

Just been shopping, ended up getting red apples, and a red onion! I also went a bit mad and bought a leek as well. Do you reckon I could add the leek with the apples and onion in the slow cooker or would be disgusting?
