roast pork shoulder?

any tips would be hugely appreciated 
I've checked all my cookery books,and searched and all the roast pork recipes are for loin.
yet the packet says to roast it
and what to serve with it?
just the usual stuff - roast spuds, snips, carrots + apple sauce?
I need a very simple no frills recipe as I want to introduce the kids to new meats, the 2 lads are very conservative ( youngest has an ASD) , they don't like mixed up foods, like stews etc.
Which, I guess, may rule out cooking the shoulder of pork in the SC.... unless it was in a fairly plain stock, or would it be possible to cook it 'dry'/steam in the SC i.e. on crumpled foil with small amount of liquid at the bottom.

I always cook pork in my slow cooker as it comes out really soft and not at all chewy, my son will eat it no problem and he doesn't like anything where he has to chew.
I just bung it in the pot with water and a few herbs and onion then take out when done and carve as if it had been roasted.

We rear our own pigs and regularly roast a shoulder joint just as you would leg/loin. However there is a lot of difference between home reared and commercially reared meat. Assuming yours was bought from a supermarket I would say roast it just that little bit slower and longer. All the usual veggies will go with it.0

I roast it and serve with the usual of roast spuds, carrots, swede and gravy.
My 6 yr old 'doesn't like meat' and doesn't like anything chewy :rolleyes: so I slice it REALLY thinly and then slice the slices into strips. I also give her her own little gravy jug for novelty value. It seems to be working as she eats it now.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Happened to be in Costco and there were two huge lumps of this for £6.94, so bought it. Froze it and there should be enough for about 4 dinners out of it for us, so my question is:-

Very impressed with the results after cooking this in the slow cooker yesterday - as my oven is broken at the moment I was struggling to think how to cook it so thanks to everyone on this board.
I've now got a mountain of left over slow cooked pork. I made today's sandwiches using it and I've found some dried apricots at the back of the cupboard so I think I'll turn it into a casserole tonight. I reckon after that I've still got enough for one more meal so has anyone any suggestions?
I have search around for recipes on this site but didn't really come up with much for left over pork.

i buy shoulder of pork joint to chop up to make this pork casserole receipe as that seems to be far more economical than buying it ready cubed
PORK CASSEROLE Serves 4-6
450g/1lb lean pork cut into chunky cubes
1 tbsp clear honey
600 ml/1 pt chicken stock
300 ml/1/4 pt apple juice
1 medium onion
3 medium carrots, peeled and sliced
2 leeks trimmed and sliced
2 celery sticks, sliced
2 tbsp Worcester sauce
1 tbsp tomato puree
Salt and pepper
Thyme
(1) Fry the pork until brown
(2) Add the vegetables
(3) Add honey, stock, apple juice, thyme, Worcester sauce, tomato puree and salt and pepper
(4) Bring to the boil
(5) Simmer for 1 ½ hours
(6) If required thicken sauce with cornflour
SLOW COOKER
Reduce liquid by half
High 4-4 ½ hours
Low 8-10 ½ hours0
