Pork Joint In Slow Cooker

Options
I would like to do a pork joint in my slow cooker - would like it to end up like a pot roast iykwim.

I have looked in the Slow Cooker thread but I wondered if I could put in with some gravy & leave it on for about 8 hours - wondered if that would do it.

I have read several posts that say beef and lamb joints came out lovely but cant seem to find anything re pork.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received. :D

When ever I SC a joint be it Pork/Beef or chicken. I just put a bit of hot water in the bottom and nothing else.

I never add veg etc. As I find the water gets greasy and and there is no way I personally would use that to make gravy. Makes me heave just thinking about it. And yes I do know that is how you make proper gravy. But I just can't stomach it.

Can't be much more help than that I am afraid.

    Thank you Calley-

Will rethink the gravy then - will just put the joint in with some water - am aiming for 8 hours then will make the gravy sep and add the hopefully tender meat to it after.

Hope it turns out how I think it will.

In a fit of moneysaving I bought a cheap pork shoulder joint in Tesco and wondered if I could cook it in a slow cooker? Got a slow cooker about 18 months ago and have not used it yet  - the instruction book wasn't very inspiring. The slow cooker is sitting in the back of the cupboard making me feel ever so guilty every time I go in there :o so help and ideas would be much appreciated.

Sure, it'll do well in the slow cooker. :)

You'll find lots of ideas on all sorts of things in the Slow Cooker Collection linked below, among which are a couple of threads on cooking pork.

just pop it in the slowcooker with a little water and it will cook fine
or experiment with apples/apple juice for example
  • Have a nice 1kg joint of pork leg and was wondering if I could cook in slow cooker instead of oven? If so, how, how long for and on low or high?

    Thanks.

I cook all my joints in slow cooker, lamb, beef, chicken, pork.
I put it in as soon as i get up on the lowest setting with nothing else in it just the joint no water or anything, the joint will cook in its own juices, then if having stuffing add a dry stuffing mix(only make up with half amount of water as normal) then add to slow cooker about half hour before serving makes yummy juicy stuffing.
