Oh dear - this all sounds so serious.
I am quite happy to be seen as a vacuous imbecile, I don't believe I am, but I happen to enjoy talking about clothes, shoes, handbags and make up. It makes me happier - surely something those who are involved on depression support threads can appreciate - and as it makes me happy, I will continue to do it.
Criticism of this is the right of posters - they may believe trying to make others feel small is character building or it just makes them feel more powerful to compensate for deficiencies in their lives. I don't have to like their comments. I don't have to like spiteful comments from my ex or nasty people on street corners either. But they can only make me feel bad with my consent. If I look at some of the comments on the boards, they could easily be meant as teasing, not abuse. However, I am not as vulnerable/sensitive as some on the boards, and I am probably harsh on posters in other boards - ones wanting wild animals exterminated or complaining about ex wives wanting maintenance would be examples.
I enjoy this board pretty much as it is - it is a gentle subject (or should be) and it isn't about pleasing or conforming to others' expectations. I don't have to plough through hundreds of posts to get to today, so I prefer a daily thread rather than a weekly one. I think beauty and fashion are symbiotic constructs, hence I talk about my hair, make up and nails as well as clothes.
But I'm just one person. Feel free to disagree.
Please, guys - if you think this is an irrelevance, a boring diversion from important stuff, I don't understand why you would want to stay here rather than going and carrying on your important work elsewhere. If you would like a break to see what people are wearing or thinking about fashion/image, maybe even to talk about it, even if you disagree, it's not my place to dictate what you think.
Even a pair of 501s and a faded Megadeath T shirt is a statement of anti fashion and gives others an idea of your mood and attitudes, perhaps of a rejection of society's values and norms, maybe as a result of being marginalised as a teenager by the In-crowd. I don't think this is a home for in-crowd bullying or one-upmanship, either. An EMO's attire is as worthy as a gym bunny's.
But hey, all I want here is inane chatter. I want to leave the serious stuff behind in other threads.
Anyone else?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
:T way to go jojo, that's all i want too chitter chatter about 'girly' stuff (of course orangeprose you are totally included:A)
Sharron xxxSometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p0 -
I just like reading about other people's outfits - don't really care whether it's a daily, weekly or long term thread
The daily chats have encouraged me to try a few different styles, to hit the car boot sales (got a gorgeous handbag and some bits and bobs of jewellery yesterday
) and, as I've just started a big weight loss effort, it's helping me feel a bit more positive about the way I look.
Sharron - I went to Sudley yesterday. Oooh, I covet some of those clothes very badly!!
(Currently wearing a blue tunic top and black pj bottoms with stars on btw, just to keep it on topic)

Yar. Thanks SharronI am more than happy to chatter about all sorts of everything so bring it on.

Like it. I'm on a 'slim down for the holidays' drive myself. Need to have the abs out on the beach (well, it is California). It's going reasonably well. So I was at the gym tonight and was wearing the following:
Black Nike t-shirt
Yellow tracksuit trousers with black stripe (almost identical to the ones Uma Thurman wore in Kill Bill, hehe)
Yellow Puma trainers
Yes, you're quite right. I did look like a giant bumblebee. But a giant bumblebee that can now row 2,000km very quickly indeed.
Toodle-pip."I'm not a one-trick pony. I'm not a ten-trick pony. I'm a whole field of ponies - and they're all literally running towards this job."
An utter berk, 2010.0 -
Evening folks. Had the day off today, but still a busy one. Popped into town this morning and got a lovely pair of red leather wedges with ankle straps for £10 in Evans.
Anyway, I'm wearing my ancient old towelling robe after a nice bath with lots of Lush Flying Fox bubbles, but earlier on it was cropped Apple Bottom jeans, white M&S ribbed vest, long dark blue 3/4 sleeve cardigan, also M&S, and turquoise Ugg flip flops.0 -

I am completely in love with the 1910 stripy day dress. It's just so Mary Poppins-esque and beautifulI'm definitely going back - I think the big exhibition is only there till September but I'm sure I read somewhere that the items in the costume room rotate so there should hopefully be lovely new things to see!
Went to the cricket club car boot sale and wow, it was much bigger than I expected! Some good stuff there though.0 -

Anyone else?
Excellent post, Jojo - I completely agree but being a "self-obsessed bimbo" would never have managed to have put the point across so eloquently.
I've been bullied and abused throughout my life for the way I dress, look and walk but over the years I've learnt to love my individually and have increasingly gained confidence so that I can look in the mirror and see a striking woman who turns heads.
So what if my clothes are all secondhand? I don't have to make apologies or excuses for my shopping habits.
The two posters who continue to make sly, judgemental comments make themselves out to be sad, insecure and lonely people.0 -
Is it not a permanent exhibition? Do you know when it ends?
I must come 'over the water' (as we say in these parts) and go and see it too before it ends, especially since her daughter Dr Tinne was an old teacher of mine!!
Ends in february, Bronnie, so sometime yet!!!Sometimes your the dog, and sometimes your the lampost..:p0 -
goanmad, i think those two posters should 'get a room':rotfl:match made in heaven in my opinion.
I love your outfits, and i absoloutly do not see why anyone has a problem with anyone who has an interest in clothes, let alone second hand clothes.
Anyhow- are we having a daily today or what??
