Can you lip read perfectly, through glass, whilst walking in the rain with your hood up. Amazing, my friend who is partially deaf can't. If not, I think a bit of paranoia came into play as you have no idea what the staff were actually saying do you. Do not ASSUME!!
And, yes, I have also been asked to leave my carrier bags at customer service at Bolton Toys R Us (a very common practice abroad), and I did, and nothing was stolen from them.freebie_junkie wrote: »I replied that I had never been asked to do this before and as I didn’t know her and wouldn’t have any protection for my purchases, I would prefer not to.
As for you being offended for the implication that you may steal, what's the difference with you implying the staff are potential thieves "I didn’t know her and wouldn’t have any protection for my purchases", and them considering you a potential thief whilst you wandered about with large bags in the store.
If you were treated badly (and I'm not saying you weren't as there will always be staff in shops that get it wrong) then as for trying to get compensation, money should not be the issue, going to the store identifying the staff members and letting the manager have a chance to discipline them so that they do not do this to others is.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

Something doesn't add up or information has been left out of this.
Again though another example of over-reaction from a customer and how that effects their experience. Definately not all has been told if the incident outside the store did occur. Technically she's off duty then as well.0 -
My OH and I were followed like we were common shoplifters on three visits to Toys R Us Hayes - not discretely either. The security guard routinely followed us from aisle to aisle... until we split up to cover more ground. Then he followed my OH, who is black and looks young. On the last occasion we got so annoyed that we commented to the check-out staff: Your security guard needs to be told that not all your customers are shoplifters.
Thats the most stupid thing I've ever read! They don't exactly announce themselves to the security guard.0 -
I found this thread because I was searching the internet after bizzarely being asked to hand over my bag to staff whilst I was in ToysRus.
I don't go into TRU very often at all and I was shocked when I was recently asked to give them my bag by a random girl standing just inside the door. That had never happened to me when I had been there on previous occasions. And my boyfriend said he hasn't been asked to give up his bag there before either.
At first I wasn't even sure whether the girl was a member of staff there. I just walked out of the store and I'm just going to buy the game elsewhere.
I've emailed the company to complain and ask them if they have adequate insurance in place to protect people's belongings should their bag/belongings get broken or stolen while in the care of their staff.
I rarely go in there anyway but if this is their normal procedure and way they treat their customers then I certainly won't be using the store in the future.0 -
when my son was first born we brought a buggy form their soon after it broke and i mean literally 2months if that i tried returning it but the 'babiesrus' department manager was very rude and tried saying i had broke it as i didnt know how to use it properly. itold her i did i even showed her but still she told me it was my own fault. anyway she then told me if i wanted they would send it of to see if it was my fault or not but she told me it could take upto 3months and there was no garantee they would fix it or replace it , obviously i wasnt happy as i didnt have the money to buy a new one as it was coming up to xmas and there was no way i could live without a buggy for 3months. In the end they never did anything about it so i ended up using a broken buggy until i could afford a new one.
i wrote several letters and emails to them but they have never helped, they seem to just apoligise and thats it.
now i wont shop there unless i really have toWins for 2011: ........................

Having just returned from toys r us Gateshead after starting my Christmas shopping i must say that i am very dissapointed with the lack of customer service i recieved whilst there. Having made my purchase i had to go to the pick up area to collect it as it was a large item. I was promptly ignored for over five minutes even though there was a member of staff there, but she seemed more interested talking on the phone and wandering around than actually paying any attention to her customers. The lady infront of me was recieving no better treatment. Whilst waiting to be seen my two year old daughter vomitted all over the floor so i approached another member of staff and apologised for it and asked if could b cleaned up. She was polite enough and spoke to the lady behind the desk who was ignoring everone and she finally came over with some white paper, threw some on the floor and left me to clean it up. She did however get me a plastic bag to put the paper in when i had cleaned it up. Eventually after another wait she finally brought me my purchase and gave it to me without so much as a look or thankyou. I will be buying the rest of my Christmas Presents elsewhere. Never again will i return to that store to be treated so rudely. I am currently trying to get contact details to e mail my complaint direct to the store, though i wonder if it will do any good.0

That's the store I (used to) go to, I waited in a queue of about 6 people buying 3/4 things and it literally took over 15 minutes for me to be served - the woman serving was unbelievably slow. And a smile? I should be so lucky. I had shopping bags that time and nothing was said about them, but the second time I went there I noticed the sign about this policy. I was stopped pretty much as soon as I went in by a woman who came bombarding towards me, I told her to forget it and went straight back out.Male.

I can't believe people still shop at Toys R Us. The customer service is abysmal, the prices aren't that great, the shop is like a jumble sale, and more often than not, if you go to pick something up from the collections desk, the box is all bashed up. I only went a few times, and got sick of having to return items that had bits missing or were broken.0
